Tragedy does not alter the law. Nowhere in the statues does it say "... this is the law until something really, really sad happens."
US Immigration Law also gives broad latitude to Immigration authorities
where they can cancel deportation because of circumstances like tragedy
It has been used by them in lots of cases

Are the aunt and uncle here legally and are they citizens who can adopt and sponsor her? Are there relatives in Brazil who want to adopt her?

It really doesn't matter what the 15 year old girl wants, she's a minor. A lot of kids don't want to relocate to another state when their parents decide to move but so what?

A child above 14 years has say on what parent to live if their parents our divorced.

Also, how is America not her home? She's lived here since she was 3. How can Brazil be her home? Likely it would feel like a foreign country to her.

The point is that "legally" this is not her home.

Which doesn't change the fact she's still an illegal alien. That 15 yo HAS a home; it's Brazil.

I still don't get how Brazil could be her home if she only lived there as a toddler.

It's as simple as this. She is a citizen of Brazil and is here in this country illegally therefore Brazil is her home.

Then, by your definition, are there any moral and upstanding people in this country? I can guarantee everybody at some point has chosen to violate some law of this country, be it criminal, traffic, or otherwise. Or is it only certain laws and/or people this standard is applied to?

ALL illegal aliens broke the law and many laws off the bat just by being here. Besides; why should we have to deal with them? They all need to go back home.

You're comparing apples to oranges here. The fact that Americans have flaws and aren't perfect is no comparison to jumping another country's borders and living an entire lifetime of lies and deceit. Their presence here negatively impacts millions of American citizens. If an American gets a speeding ticket for example it only affects him not millions of people.
