Right now there are 51 people who have been accused of crimes and are in the county illegally under state care. It costs about $3 million a year to care for them. They've all been accused of a crime, and have either been deemed incompetent to proceed in court or not guilty by reason of insanity.

Some of them have spent years in such facilities.

It's a revolving bill that has cost Florida $17 million so far. Workman wonders why the state is spending that money when other state services are being cut.

At a time when veterans are returning with so many mental health issues and social services to help citizens are being cut, why is this happening?

This is a travesty.

Yes, it is. I wonder how many palms are being greased to sell this country in such a shameful manner. We are providing illegal aliens with treatment denied our own citizens. When will the citizens of this country stand up and demand an end to this abuse?

Not only this, but illegals have become "permanent residents" at other facilities, of course, at taxpayers' expense. No other country would allow itself to be such a pathetic doormat.

The fact of the matter is that hospitals in metro areas that host a large illegal immigrant population are unable to turn away patients who have neither insurance nor proof that they are in the United States legally– two things necessary for discharge purposes and reimbursements, said Chui Man Lai, assistant vice president of patient services at a New York state hospital.
Hospitals Stuck With Illegal Immigrants, Uninsured

Quote:
State law prohibits public New York hospitals from discharging patients to shelters or the streets. As a result, patients who are illegal immigrants or lack sufficient insurance or housing often stay in the hospital long after they could be discharged.

For example, one patient has lived at Coler-Goldwater Specialty Hospital & Nursing Facility for 13 years after being admitted for an arterial disease that cost him part of his leg and left him in a wheelchair.

Yeah, they didn't get that from illegal aliens...

YOu should also note that the Department of Veterans Affairs, with Federal funding, is supposed to be the medical safety net for veterans...

Programs/funds are being cut for our vets and seniors and yet illegals continue to get our tax dollars in various ways. It is simply heartbreaking.

YOu should note that the VBA (Veterans Benefits Administration) is the medical safety net for veterans and actively provides assistance to veterans daily.

That being said, one penny being spent on illegal aliens in this country under any circumstances depletes funds that should be solely dedicated to assist US citizens.

I am of the opinion that all illegals need to take their sorry anuses home and drain their own countries.

Unfortunately, the US government feels the need to provide a safety net and waste American tax dollars on illegal alien invaders and their racist hate groups.

That being said, did you have a point?

Even sadder, if you or I dared to enter an emergency room or hospital without it being a true emergency or if we lacked insurance, administratively, those registering us would ensure that we had some form of legal identity so that we receive the bill. If we don't pay it, we will be hounded like criminals.

Illegals, however, are not challenged and we the taxpayers are responsible for paying their fair share.
