You'll notice Obama always says, as proof that illegal immigration is down, that 'Apprehensions are fewer.' Of course they're fewer, when the BP is ordered not detain those they observe crossing illegally. This is what makes it look like Obama's really on top of things, because some people will take that to mean fewer illegal aliens are crossing the border, which is the impression Obama wants to give. People have to pay attention to what he actually says, not what he's trying to imply.

If people had done that during the last election, he never would have been elected.

Yet remittances to Mexico are WAY up. Remittances would be a very good indication that illegal immigration is up.

1st Quarter Remittances to Mexico Rose by 5.3% to $5.37 Billion - Hispanically Speaking News

The number of transactions also rose from the first quarter of 2011, climbing 7.3 percent to 16.8 million.

Remittances rose 16.4 percent last month from the level of March 2011, to $2.08 billion.

Every president who followed Reagan's amnesty is responsible - to whatever degree - for the state that the US is in with regard to illegals. It's like everything else, if things are going good - who cares, when things go bad, find a reason. What is going bad right now is the economy and Americans are suffering with cuts and taxes. And it's only now, because of the economy, that Americans are taking notice of the drain that illegals are on this economy since they have lost so much and stand to lose more with further cutbacks. Whatever the status of an illegal is now they won't be affected by whatever measures government takes to recover. Whatever measures government takes will be at the expense of Americans who will be expected to pay more, lose more, and the status of illegals will remain the same at the expense and sacrifice of US citizens because what we pay more for and lose, will go towards the continuation of these handouts to illegals. And illegals get a bonus: they will continue to work off the books and pay no taxes. There was a time when it was said that the (huge) middle class carried the economy. Now the shrinking middle class and those in the low poverty category will carry the welfare of illegals.

The country was riding high when Bush was in office, but did you hear much outcry when the illegal population was around 16 million? No, because we were happy in our little cocoons living the good life until government and big business was exposed for its own corruption. Yup, our government was just "Too Big to Fail".

And in this economy. It appears illegal aliens are doing better than citizens.

Yes, either they're all getting some very lavish pay raises so they all have so much more money left over every month after living expenses to send out of the US, or there are that many more of them to send this money out.

The article at the link implies the latter - there are many more.
