this article is just chock-full of stupidity..

Last month's Supreme Court decision in the landmark Arizona immigration case was groundbreaking for what it omitted: the words "illegal immigrants" and "illegal aliens," except when quoting other sources. The court's nonjudgmental language established a humanistic approach to our current restructuring of immigration policy.

When you label someone an "illegal alien" or "illegal immigrant" or just plain "illegal," you are effectively saying the individual, as opposed to the actions the person has taken, is unlawful. The terms imply the very existence of an unauthorized migrant in America is criminal.

NO, it implies someone is here in violation of the laws.

Exactly! Though illegal immigration might not be a criminal offense. It is still illegal to come here "illegally". It is PC gone wild. Geez, that desease has even infected the Supreme Court now.

And his colleague, my friend Ruben, goes against him:

'Illegal immigrant' is the uncomfortable truth - CNN.com

...And that's the case this week now that Charlie has written, in a thought-provoking column for CNN.com, that the phrase "illegal immigrant" is "biased" and "racially offensive." He also implied that it's a "slur" and -- borrowing language from George Orwell -- a "worn-out and useless phrase."...

So the PC brigade is out in force and does not like those labels because they might hurt someones feelings? Very well, instead, how about just calling them criminal invaders, would they like that better? I could go along with that.

that was a very good rebuttal.

Actually, it's none of the above. The phrase is accurate. It's the shoe that fits. It's reality. And, as is often the case with reality, it's hard for some people to accept.

When you use it to describe an entire ethnic group, as many do, it's a slur.

So Ruben Navarette is a friend of yours? You do know what his views are on illegal immigration even though at least he had the guts to admit that illegal aliens are "illegal aliens", don't you?

Yes, Ruben is a friend of mine, where we interact with what we agree and disagree on. Like myself, he has a Mexican-born spouse that legally immigrated here. Ever respond to a column of his, that we can share a laugh on?
