Church to be billed for costs of protest

By the end of the week, a Simi Valley church will be billed almost $40,000 for police presence during a weekend protest against the church's sheltering of an illegal immigrant.

The city of Simi Valley is sending a $39,306 invoice to the United Church of Christ for costs incurred for police services at the protest.

It's about time the churches get some repercussions for harboring and aiding illegal immigrants. I cannot believe they can advise people to be good law abiding citizens and then commit crimes themselves.

I hope more mayors start sending the bill to any business or organization that helps with these protests.

I say Bill the church if they want to harbor criminals and disturb the peace and police are called than they need to pay the piper so to speak.

If the church is going to take up politics then they should also lose their tax exempt status as well.

I listened to an interview on the radio last week with the guy who works for the PD that is billing the church - i believe he said that they didn't really think they would get paid on the invoice by the church, but that they had no choice but to deploy men to the church because they started a publicity campaign flaunting their harboring of an illegal, which precipitated the security problems. He said they needed to get the message across on cause and effect and that all the extra cost could have been avoided if they had kept their quiet.
