I didn't realize Obama's deferred action would involve 11 million. Or, is this yet more proof of backdoor amnesty for all illegals in this country? Perhaps that explains the need for Spanish ads. After all, dreamies "grew up" here, are Americans who just lack documents, know no other country, and don't speak Spanish. Heck, they can't even communicate with their Spanish-speaking parents.

Also, perhaps someone can explain how a 2-year immigration status is now somehow "irreversible."

He told a press conference that August 15 will be the beginning of a process that will bring freedom to "11 million undocumented people in the United States," a reference to the day that immigration authorities will start accepting applications.

Gutierrez said that together with Sen. Richard Durbin (D-Ill.), he will go on a nationwide campaign with ads and information in Spanish to help undocumented youths take advantage of this opportunity to be accepted with dignity and respect.

The registration will be the start of a process that could take two years, but once begun it will be "irreversible," he said.

The article is taken out of context. It means that it's a sign of immigration reform to come. The 11 million is the presumed amount of illegals in the union. Many here of course think that number isn't correct, but in the context of the article it's assumed to be that.

I thought Obama's deferred action was to only include a little over a million illegal immigrants? Now Gutierrez is claiming it could or will include all 11 million of them? He's got some explaining to do.

I don't think it was taken out of context. But, I do believe it was a huge gaffe. He wasn't supposed to let the mass amnesty cat out of the bag. That was supposed to be on Obama's secret to-do list for his second term, although most already realize this so-called relief for "undocumented" kids, is just a smokescreen. Heck, ICE agents are already being reprimanded for daring to enforce our immigration laws; and any state attempting to tackle this problem is labeled anti-immigrant and racist. They're now even shamefully playing the Jim Crow, Gestapo, and Apartheid cards. I suppose next, they'll play the slavery card since Gutierrez is now claiming they are being "freed" as if in bondage.

But, you're right about the number. The government hasn't a clue. So, 11 million is just a convenient phrase they use in reference to ALL illegal aliens. As citizens living in California have frequently stated, they probably have at least 10 million living there.

BTW, do you believe his "irreversible" comment was also taken out of context?

Indeed he does. It will be interesting to see how he tries to back peddle.

Next, they'll exempt all illegals with a disability, or those receiving medical treatment. And, of course, their family members must also be pardoned. One's race, ethnicity, national origin, or sexual orientation should not be considered a mitigating factor regarding our immigration laws. If a person is here in violation of our laws, they should be eligible for deportation, period. This is beyond ridiculous.

This is exactly what Obama wanted..a path to citizenship. Only it's not the "path" most folks thought of.
Bypass Congress and sign an EO. People said that would never happen.

Well, it happened and Congress hasn't said a word.

DACA, as they're calling the new policy, isn't going to cover every illegal alien. It's going to cover those who met its requirements. Will there be fraud? Of course. I don't however believe every illegal alien, or even the greater portion of them, will try to apply for it. Similar programs already exist for different illegals. Many central Americans were eligible to apply for a similar procedure a while back. You didn't see every illegal apply for it though.

Anyone who believes a forty or fifty year old man will apply and get work authorization with a fake high school diploma through DACA is beyond delusional. Yes, again, there will be fraud. There are limits to it though.

I doubt it's ten million. There are a bit under forty million people in the state in total. If ten million was true that would mean a quarter of all people in California were illegal. I doubt that.

No that much was in context. The author seems to believe that this is a sign that we'll see a new amnesty passed. Whether he's right or you agree with him is another matter.

Explain just how this "path to citizenship" is taking place...
