To be fair GHOST I don't think Nea1 was directing that comment at you, she was talking about the politicians being boneheads.

By your logic then, should we just open up our borders to all impoverished people, or only Mexicans? Because I don't see why we should allow any country to export their problems onto our soil - that would be un-American to burden us with the poor of the world. My problem with illegal aliens is not their country of origin; it is with their expectation of our country somehow being responsible to improve their quality of life by abandoning their homes and squeezing into our country by any means possible, including having a complete disregard of our laws.

we can certainly take steps to promote fair trade, and boost these nation's economies. if we didnt have a desire to be this uber-rich and powerful nation, we could definitely sacrifice quite a bit and still live very well, along with countries around the world. that would be awesome, and promote peace!

You didn't answer my question - should all countries be allowed to export their poor into the US, or only Mexico?
And Mexico's economy needs no boosting - they need to fix their problem with corruption and monopolizing so there wouldn't be such a huge class of impoverished people to begin with. Maybe you could take up the cause and start demanding these changes in Mexico to get at the root of the problem, instead of promoting the use of US dollars as a band aid to heal these massive wounds. Maybe instead of expeciting the US to collectively "sacrifice quite a bit and still live very well" you could get the families that control Mexico to see it your way.

I have no problem helping Mexico, but their government is so corrupt anything we did would go to the wrong hands. Do they not have elections there? And who votes?.

you are correct. they hold "democratic elections" where the general populace votes, but it is similar to america's democracy. puppet A or puppet B. that is why no political progress is being made here or there. and it would take a nation such as america to provide the political influence to help repair mexico.
