(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch announced today that it filed a lawsuit in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia on August 15, 2012, against the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for documents related to the “Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals” directive issued on June 15, 2012 (Judicial Watch v. Department of Justice et al. (No. 1:12-cv-01350)). The new Obama administration policy would allow certain illegal aliens under the age of 31 to apply for protected status that would prevent their deportation and authorize them to work.

“This new Obama amnesty program is an attack on the constitutional role of Congress and runs rough shod over existing immigration law. It is no surprise that the Obama administration doesn’t want to share the legal basis for this unilateral executive action and is violating Freedom of Information Act law to keep the American people in the dark,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton in a statement. “President Obama and his political appointees are abusing their offices with this new amnesty program. If the administration were confident about the legality of its actions, it wouldn’t be keeping secret the legal basis for President Obama’s extraordinary decision to unilaterally change the law.”

The plot thickens. As of today, Dreamies have only submitted applications. It will take months before any will be granted work permits, SSNs, or driver's licenses. Who knows what will transpire in the meantime. This could go all the way to the Supreme Court.

Yes, kind of like the ACLU

Only, with a very different point of view, of course.

They did not think this through.

They did not hire extra staff to process these people on top of legal immigrants.

Well duh, it's their job to file suits. Likewise, the DOJ "sues over everything." Newsflash: Lawsuits and attorneys go hand-in-hand. That's like saying doctors are always examining patients.

It will be very interesting to see how Obama manages to defend his actions, especially given his admission that he does NOT have the authority to bypass Congress to change immigration policies. He said, and I quote, "That's not how our Constitution is written." His own words will come back to haunt him.

Quote:
In a speech to La Raza last July, Obama said that on the question of immigration reform, "some people want me to bypass Congress and change the laws on my own." Obama said he found the idea "very tempting" but had to reject it because "that's not how our system works."
Quote:
"As I mentioned when I was at La Raza a few weeks back, I wish I had a magic wand and could make this all happen on my own," Obama told the group. "There are times where -- until Nancy Pelosi is speaker again -- I'd like to work my way around Congress."
Quote:
"We've got laws on the books that have to be upheld," Obama said. But "you know as well as anyone that…how we enforce those laws is also important."
Quote:
"We live in a democracy, and at the end of the day, I can't do this all by myself under our democratic system," he said. "If we're going to do big things -- whether it’s passing this jobs bill, or the DREAM Act, or comprehensive immigration reform -- we're going to have to get Congress to act."

He starts his pandering at 14:46. But, his biggest applause is at 15:20 followed by chants of "Yes you can!" when he mentioned he would "like to" bypass Congress to help the "undocumented" brought here by their parents. Of course, he then proceeds to explain why he can't.

Obama's only motive for DACA is his re-election. Otherwise, he wouldn't have waited until now, especially after admitting he did not have the authority to do this. He knew they lacked the resources, but he did what he thought would placate Hispanic voters, and obviously it worked.

In the meantime they'll keep doing what they've always been doing: working with forged documents, stealing social security numbers and driving without licenses. Because they feel that American laws should only apply to them if those laws make their lives easier.
