But I'm sure that many poster have never seen it.

Quote:
'IMMIGRANTS, NOT AUSTRALIANS, MUST ADAPT. Take It Or Leave It. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Bali , we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Australians. '

'This culture has been developed over two centuries of struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom.'

'We speak mainly ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, Learn the language!'

'Most Australians believe in God. This is not some Christian, right wing, political push, but a fact, because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture.'

Too bad our government/politicians don't have the guts to issue a similar statement about our country.

It's prety old - as it wasn't the PM - it was said by Treasurer Peter Costello when the Howard govt was in - back in 05 I think.

Plus the "quotes" all over the internet aren't exactly what was said. But basically he was telling Muslim immigrants that if they didn't want to follow Australian laws they were "welcome to leave" anytime.

Here's the full gist of it on snopes.

You might be interested in this article from 03 - also a bit different to what you see here.

Australia (and Canada) has a good system to obtain highly qualified immigrants.

They use a points based system to make sure Australia obtains the best kind of immigrants.

- Age
- Education (Highly skilled Bachelors= Engineering, Accounting, Healthcare, etc)
- Experience
- English proficiency

Australia has 22 million residents and a growing economy. That's why they need labor force.

If the Australian prime minister really said that, he wasn't talking about the immigrants that were accepted into Australia through their immigration system.

Australia, like the US, has plenty of an idle workforce that are willing to do the jobs that are advertised. The problem is, countries need a surplus of cheap labor in order to keep wages down, and to stagnate the middle class. That's why the various governments of the first world, PURPOSELY keep a segment of the population unemployed and on government benefits.

As I said it wasn't the Australian PM at the time, but the Treasurer, and yes, he WAS talking about legal immigrants - it was actually directed towards Muslim immigrants who were demanding Australia change their laws to accomodate them.

Australia is not recruiting immigrants because they need cheap labor. Immigrants that relocate to Australia are skilled, and most of the times have a job waiting for them (in their area of knowledge) when they move there.

Australia has 1 of the lowest unemployment rates in the world. They invented the mínimum wage. The first country to adopt it. Also, Australia established a mínimum wage for every career. Accountants, Nurses, Teachers, doctors, engineers, hairdressers, mechanics, etc. All have minimum wages to protect all the residents from discrimination based on gender, ethnicity, etc. Noone is discriminated.

Australia is an example of what should be implemented in the usa.

- A points based system. Although the usa with its massive 315 million doesnt need more labor force.
- A higher mínimum wage. The australian mínimum wage is way superior to that of the USA and the cost of living and taxes are similar.
- Universal healthcare.
- Minimum wages for every career.

The usa is a country where the wealth is concentrated in a small part of the population. With a higher mínimum wage, the Gini coefficient of the USA will get better. The current gini coefficient of the usa ranks behind cameroon. It is the worst of the developed nations.

If the USA builds a wall (Southern border), stops issuing birthright citizenship, establishes a points based system of immigration, increases the mínimum wages to those of europe Canadá Australia, and establishes a single payer healthcare system (universal healthcare), the USA could become a dream country.

Not particularly, numbers wise, but there as here they are among the most VOCAL in demanding laws be changed to suit them and you have to remember feelings were running strong at the time of the Bali bombings by Muslims in Indonesia that targetted Australians (and others).
