Just another example of how the Bush Administration is not serious about enforcing immigration laws. In fact, it is just another demonstration of he cares more about illegals than the citizens of this country.

Hopefully this will change when he is finally flushed from office and replaced by someone who will listen to the American people for a change instead of the corporations and the unions.

We have people dying in this country who happen to be citizens and can't afford proper healthcare and look at what Bush is going to allow.

Illegal Aliens Can Get $40 Digital TV Coupons (http://www.tvpredictions.com/aliens100307.htm - broken link)
The federal government will issue the coupons next year for digital converters.

What a big bite of $$$&% sandwich that is! Another case of entitlements going out to illegals! The coupons should only go to legal, taxpaying citizens if at all. In fact should the government being giving anyone coupons? I'm sick of wasting tax dollars on silly crap when we have bridges falling down and roads collasping.

The program is already under financed and they want to give away even more money at the taxpayer expense? The program is so under financed they're already talking about a supplemental bill authorizing even more money.

Although this disappoints me, I'm not surprised.

I don't see what the point of this program is... why is the government paying for people to be able to watch tv? What a waste of money. Illegals aside, the whole program sounds like a waste of money.

Well, although anyone can get a coupon, the program's geared toward poor people who can't afford a new TV or digital type cable service. The thought behind the program is people purchased perfectly good televisions and now due to a new government requirement, those TVs won't work.

I understand that... I just don't see why the government should spend $1.5b to help people buy an accessory for their TV. TV is something most people can live without. The analog tvs can still play DVDs and video games... they aren't worthless.

This article was just posted as another excuse to get all riled up about the illegals. Like there weren't enough excuses already. I don't think ANYONE should get $40 for their TV from my tax dollars.

You missed one important part of this story.. Why in the world is the government giving ANYONE $40 for cable boxes? $1,500,000,000 of OUR tax dollars.. going to buy CABLE boxes?

If your paying the $75-$100 a month for cable.. $40 isnt going to hurt you.

Furthermore.. Isnt cable boxes something tht CABLE companies usually provide free for singing up for their services? I dont think I've ever paid for one..

Sounds like a welfare program for cable companies if I've ever seen one..

Anyone who has bought a newer TV won't need a digital converter. Anyone with cable TV won't need one either. The only people who'll need a digital converter box are the people who only use a roof antenna or rabbit ears type of device to get a signal. Although, if someone has a satellite dish that they disconnect to get local stations, then they would also need a digital converter if they have an older TV set. In fact if they have a DVD player, that will have a digital converter in it already, and they can just route the antenna signal into the DVD player then into the TV from there.

Based upon the price tag.. they have funded 37,500,000 "vouchers".. thats a heck of a lot of people still using roof antennas or rabbit ears.
