Our citizenship should not be made a mockery of by allowing newborns of illegal immigrants to become citizens at birth so that still needs to change because that means they are allowed to remain in this country. As for welfare there should be at least one qualifying citizen parent to tap into that. The child should not be the qualifier but then the ACLU would come out of the woodwork and it would open up a whole new can of worms. Better to change/re-interpret birthright citizenship.
President Clinton completely closed out all non-citizens from SNAP (food stamp) benefits in 1996. Bush II restored it to the current qualifications in 2003 (and had the USDA start a program with the Mexican consulates and Spanish media). Why would it be so hard to do what Clinton did again?

What if these non-citizens have U.S. born children? Are they closed out also? I'd be happy to return to what Clinton did. Is Obama up for it to?

That's the catch --- Clinton as well as Bush and Obama all kept the government goodies to those who give birth here. That US birth certificate brings in all kinds of rewards. Clinton didn't do much about illegal immigration -- and in fact it was after he put NAFTA in place the they began flooding over the border.
Like Salinas de Gortari said during the NAFTA negotiations -- Mexico had to get rid of 25 million campesions (peons) because they knew NAFTA would put them out of work and their land was wanted for other purposes.
Canada has a system that WORKS and they dont worry about deporting illegals at all. Romney doesnt have to "come up with a way to do it" Canada already has. Illegals who try to find work there quickly learn that they can not be hired without a certified work permit. No permit = no job. Hiring an alien with no permit = jail time and fines to the employer..... WHY CANT WE DO THIS HERE......? .The solution is easy and Romney touched on it .
Because the hispanic lobby, the pandering Dems and the docile labor loving Reps hate that idea.

There is a solution .There is just no way we can force our government to enforce the laws. As far as birth rights to babies born here by illegals there is also a fair way to deal with this. If they are to stay with the mama they must go back to mexico with her and THEN when the child becomes an adult at 21 years of age let him be first in line to apply for citizenship....Whats unfair about that?
As others have said, tightening welfare qualifications is not the answer. Without eliminating birthright citizenship for the children of illegal aliens, we will still be paying billions of dollars for millions of illegal alien households. Illegal aliens should not be eligible to receive welfare or any tax-funded benefit on behalf of their U.S.-born children. If the parents are here illegally, they should automatically disqualify. After all, the benefits are issued to the parents, not the children. It's a scam that's bankrupting this country.
Without government handouts, most illegals could not survive here. End the freebies, and most will leave. It's just that simple.
