All true---I've known many of these folks, and even some Mexicans who were of entirely non-Spanish European background, and around Acapulco there are a number of folks of distant Filipino heritage (Acapulco had lots of traffic with Manila long ago when Spain ruled both). I've known a number of Mexicans who had Irish ancestors. But not sure I get your point in regards to this thread, unless it's the futilty of any sort of visual "profiling" by law-enforcement.
Several White Hispanics; specifically those with non Spanish European surnames, admitted that La Migra paid them no heed------especially if the formers' English was good.
I truly don't believe that cops will ask anyone that looks white to them. This would be a way of only targeting a certain color of people if you ask me. Lol, I think I went just a little overboard with the 90% . But I think its safe to say at least 60%.
And about the rallys.. I'd be truly embarrassed to be seen at one of those. Why would I try to fight for rights that don't pertain me?
Some years ago we hired a babysitter in the early morning hours to get through a difficult period. She was from Argentina--red hair, fair skin, blue eyes. All four grandparents were from Italy. She spoke no English at all.
One morning the police pulled her over. She couldn't convince them she spoke no English, until finally a Spanish-speaking officer took care of it. They seemed somewhat annoyed at her "deception". Would their refusal to believe she spoke only Spanish be called "reverse profiling"?
We have ancestors from all over Europe. This is why I'm so interested in taking a genealogy DNA test. Anyone know where to get this done?
Don't know for sure, but there are definitely companies which offer this specific service. Probably could be found on the internet.
Some time ago, a team of researchers went to the eastern Mediterranean (Lebanon, Israel, Cyprus, etc.) and got several thousand people to voluntarily submit to DNA tests. They traced many of these individuals back to the "Phoenicians". Most participants were thrilled to find out about their own "exotic" ancestry. The Phoenicians had been "lost" to history until the modern DNA test was invented. Good luck in your search.

I can easily believe this. My wife has a "white-looking" half sister who's often ASSUMED to be my wife, when we all go out in a group. Sometimes it can be funny, other times annoying.

There were several profiled on 60 minutes last Sunday but they really didin]t have a lot good to say.....the test will only determine if you and someone else are related thru a common ancester.
One of the better genealogy sites if familysearch.org.... it's owned and operated by the Mormon church and is totally free....and taps into their archives

That Argentine was profiled as a non Hispanic White based upon her appearance I would bet.
Why? My parents are Mexican, and I was born here therefore I am an American Citizen. Hence the Mexican-"American". And I'm not claiming Mexico, I am not a Mexican Citizen. Do you have a problem with me and every other Mexican putting a hyphen in their heritage title that was born here? I recently did a survey and most of the white people which have been here for god knows how many generations said they were German, or Irish and only some said straight up, white.
an american is not a race....it is a nationality, and it is a melting pot...there is no color...no race....it is color blind, except for the red white and blue of our flag...

Italian-Americans much of the time, call themselves Italians.
Same goes for many Irish, Jewish, Japanese, Korean, Chinese...etc. They don't even use the hyphen.
What is the big deal if someone wants to call themselves Mexican-American?
I have to do this sometimes so people "Americans" don't ask if I am a Peurto-Rican, Guatamlean, or El Salvadorian. You get used to having to classify yourself as a Hispanic.
