If an illegal alien from Guatemala is caught trying to enter the US illegally from Mexico at a port of entry, he's held by US authorities for Deportation to Guatemala.

On the other hand (seen on Border Wars) If an illegal alien from Guatemala is caught by Mexican authorities trying to enter Mexico illegally from the US at a port of entry, he's turned back to the US for us to deal with.

Looks like we're responsible for Mexico's deportations too.

From what I understand - Mexico guards their southern border rather well - keeping Guatemalans out.

On the other hand - they practically encourage their northern border to be a sieve - allowing Mexicans out - not to mention guns and drugs..

Which episode? If you go through a Port of Entry into Mexico from the United States, it is fully legal (unless you are caught by Customs with contraband or having more than you can declare). Only when you travel further into the interior (about 50 miles from the border) would you need a permit ("FMT").

Actually, within the last few years, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers and Border Patrol agents have been screening people exiting the United States through our Ports of Entry (even have caught drugs that would have gone into Canada, and illegal aliens that were "self-deporting")...

I don't know what episode it was. It was one I watched yesterday (Tuesday) but early in the day, so probably a rerun. What happened is Mexican Border Patrol caught 2 men trying to enter Mexico from the US at a port of entry. When Mexican BP found out they were illegal aliens from Guatemala, they turned them back to the US, where US BP took them into custody.
