A new report shows illegal immigration to the U.S. from Mexico is rising, a sign, some observers say, that the economy is making a comeback.

Not only is illegal immigration on the rise, the report said, but the number of illegal aliens leaving the U.S. is decreasing.

No, more are coming, and few are leaving, not due to an improved economy. It's due solely to the fact that our laws aren't being enforced, both Democrats and Republicans are pandering to illegals, and amnesty is promised to all but "convicted" felons. By the time Congress votes on another amnesty, we can expect hundreds of thousands if not millions more to be here to take advantage of the "path to citizenship" the U.S. somehow owes the world.

But, I thought our border with Mexico is now "more secure" than ever. If true, how are they still entering?

The idea that illegal immigration is a measure of how well the economy is doing has nothing to do with the economy. Illegals come here because of the conditions in there own country, and the subsidies the U.S. offers. Period. The idea that illegals are actually going to assess our economy before they make a move to come here is ludicrous.

Many are coming because they are counting on a very large amnesty and quick and easy US citizenship.

Many elderly and others facing retirement who once may have even worked here but returned home will come back for the amnesty -- and of course a nice fat social security retirement here since that is another reward of amnesty.

Exactly -- illegal immigration was up when our unemployment rates were at their highest for that reason. As long as it's easy and there are no negative consequences for breaking the laws, they will - in spite of the fact that Mexico's unemployment never reached high levels, they will flee Mexico with an unemployment rate of 4 or 5% when the USA's is well over 10% because the money is a lot better here if they do work and we offer free health care, food stamps, free meals in schools -- not to mention free laptops or iPads from the schools for their kids --- Mexico's safety net programs aren't nearly so generous.

It's great being so-called "poor" in the USA after all -- in their minds, our country is so much better because it helps the people a lot more than their country does.
