Border Patrol stops translating Spanish for other police - Washington Times

Personally, I hope this backfires and increases arrests by local LE on illegals.

One veteran Border Patrol agent called Mr. Aguilar’s new policy “absurd,” saying it would “diminish our ability to serve the communities we patrol” and that “cooperation among agencies undoubtedly will be reduced.”
What about serving the American people?

And there are those in here that claim that Spanish won't take over English. Yeah, right. Already there are many jobs not even related to LE that require Spanish now.

I think all English speakers should boycott businesses that cater to people that only speak Spanish.

I speak Thai to my wife when in public. If people can't deal with that I invite them to kiss my azz. If a spanish speaker wants to speak spanish then not my business.
As for LEO's. On the border with a spanish speaking country. Yes Local law enforcement should have their own spanish speakers. Why should the FED have to supply them?
Go to any big city. The police departments have people who can speak spanish, chinese, russian or what ever the need demands.
I go to Thailand every year. The police department has english speakers because many tourist are english speakers.
Common sense can not be taught.

The problem is the # of Spanish speakers that simply could care less about assimilating here.

There aren't too many Thai speakers compared to hispanic Spanish speakers. Also I never hear an option to push 2 for Thai or bilingual verbiage.

While I respect your opinion I think you have missed the point.

-Assimilate to what? Your version of what you think an American should be?

-If we had the technology 120 years ago, the phone would have said, "Press 1 for English, 2 for Italian, 3 for German...." etc.

That I assure you.

No, assimilate to what it is. We are a dominant English speaking nation for one. It is our national de facto language. Who cares what would have been done it the past? We have the technology now and only Spanish is the second option, not Italian, German, etc. and we have immigrants from those countries also.
