Federal agents no longer will scoop up jailed illegal immigrants who had been picked up by police for traffic offenses and other petty crimes, the nation's top immigration enforcer announced Friday.

"We are changing who" we seek to deport, said John Morton, the director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

I certainly feel better knowing "petty criminals" are free to roam our streets illegally without the fear of deportation.

"My overriding concern is, of course, public safety," Livingston said. "We don't want to release someone who turns out to be a violent offender."

Well, you won't know if the so-called "petty criminal" is also a violent offender until after the fact, will you? Of course, after being released and then graduating from petty crimes to armed robbery, rape, or murder, it will be a little too late, especially for their victims. But, I suppose this will ensure that only "law-abiding" illegals are allowed to remain and be offered amnesty and a path to citizenship. Far be it for us to deny petty criminals this golden opportunity.

Here's an example of an illegal alien with no prior criminal convictions, and no prior immigration violations (no record of a prior deportation). Oh, and being an anchor parent also sweetens the deal. So, naturally, if not for this, he would qualify for the new hands-off category.

Although Amado Espinosa-Ramirez was charged with 42 counts of predatory sexual acts, including sexual endangerment of a family member under 13, ICE issued a statement claiming he was released on an ankle bracelet pending a hearing before an immigration judge because he had “no prior criminal convictions, no prior immigration violations, and is the parent of a U.S. citizen child.” But Espinosa-Ramirez failed to appear for a hearing in federal immigration court and has been a fugitive ever since.

I am not sure what laws that legal immigrants can violate without being deported but I think it is pretty strict. Why are illegal immigrants being allowed to stay possibly under the same scenarios?

Petty is open to a whole lot of interpretation however. It's perfectly fine for illegals to use stolen identification and commit felony document fraud and of course drive with no insurance or license. Illegals are never expected to pay child support, they're not even going to have to chip in for Obamacare. Failure to pay income taxes is par for the course.

Illegals haven't been pursued in many years. They can pretty much just come on over and it's free sailing and a free ride for them.
