Starting March 4, illegals with a direct family relative who is a citizen can apply for legal residence.
All those anchor babies can now sponsor mom and dad, sister and brother.

That means they will be required to have insurance under Obamacare.
That also means they are eligible for public benefits.

That's at least 1 million if not more "new" people we need to take care of.

Since this just got announced yesterday I guess the CBO hasn't come out with any cost projections.

Immigrants and Public Benefits

What Health Care Ruling Means
Documented immigrants, those with green cards and other permanent residents, are subject to the individual mandate and will be required to buy health insurance beginning in 2014 when the law goes fully into effect. The government will require immigrants to verify their legal status before entering the new health care system.

These legal immigrants will be able to buy their insurance through the exchanges that the states are assigned to set up. Documented immigrants whose incomes fall between certain federal poverty levels will be allowed to apply immediately for government subsidies and credits to help them buy their insurance on the exchanges.

What is the cost if we don't insure these people?

The main problem with this issue is neither side really knows the costs or the benefits of having illegals.

Do they put us in the red or not? After all, they pay sales tax here (not to mention some also pay property).

Yet their emergency room visits cost a fortune, undoubtedly.

The main issue is this: business owners (put liberal/conservative labels aside) encouraged "workers" to come to our country illegally.

Turns out, we wound up with people.

It's not just obamacare. They are now eligible to apply for all the public programs.
HUD, TANF, etc.

We're are giving permanent status to a group of unskilled, poorly educated people.
How far in life do you think they will get on their own ?

This is the fiscal cliff.

How do we expect to pay for all of these new people? Soon Foreigners will pull the plug on our debt. We will be force to become a nation of savers and cut back on these handouts we take for granted.

What were the changes that allow them to sponsor irrespective of age from the way it is implemented now? Sponsorship rules haven't changed. Ban restrictions or being qualified to legally immigrate hasn't changed.

Why weren't they able to be sponsored before this?...

Good questions..go ask Mr. President or DHS.

The bigger problem is going to be the financial burden on the system.
