All of the respondents on this site think that the congressmen are bigoted. I wish that they'd step back and ask themselves if it's right for illegals of any race (even 100%white) to come to this country, drop a baby and then expect the baby to be an "automatic American".

They're simply ill informed of anything beyond their partisan belief. They all ascribe to the Progressive ideology, ignorant of everything, especially comprehension of case law.
Don't penalize the children. They didn't ask to be born. Under the proposed law children born and raised here would have no rights or legal status in the US.
And why place of birth? If life and personhood begins at conception then surely citizenship should be based on place conceived.

How is endowing them with the citizenship of their parents, penalizing them? It is merely your opinion that where a baby is conceived should be his homeland. Most countries disagree with you. By the way, many women enter this country illegally already pregnant so they conceived in their homeland. That kind of blows your theory right there, doesn't it?

These children didn't ask to be born in the US, either. Since they, by your own analysis, had no choice why should they then be rewarded?

If it were something that could be proven, perhaps. However this would not stop those who came to the US with the idea of having children here and hoping that Obamas' "reforms" will also make the legal.

How are the children penalized by denying them US citizenship? What if all they are are US Nationals instead? Simply denying them US Citizenship is not penalizing them, their parents taking them with them when they are deported is not punishment.
I posted a comment over in thinkprogress for all those "constitutional scholars" that claim to want to blow Steve Kings brains out or shoot him through the heart, but to my surprise they deleted my comment.

How would ending Birthright Citizenship "penalize" the children? Are children born to non-citizens in countries that do not grant automatic citizenship also being penalized? The U.S. is one of the few countries to still confer citizenship on the children of non-citizens. Most countries have enough sense to realize something as valuable as citizenship should be reserved for children born to their citizens, not the children born to any foreigner who manages to cross their borders illegally. Children of illegal aliens should have the same rights and status as their parents.
How on earth could the government determine where a baby was conceived? But, if you really support this, then you can't also support Birthright Citizenship, because many babies born in this country to illegals were conceived in Mexico and elsewhere. In fact, some women have arrived at our border hospitals in labor, still wet and dirty from swimming the Rio Grande. Not to mention, the countless babies conceived in China, India, and other countries whose mothers wait until they're near term to enter this country on a tourist visa expressly to give birth to a "U.S. citizen." A Mexican woman who was interviewed by a reporter brazenly admitted that all of her children were born in the US. She has never lived in this country, and entered on a tourist visa for each delivery. The news report also showed her children playing in the front yard of their nice middle-class home in Mexico. It's a huge scam. You should Google "Birth Tourism" for an enlightening experience.

Not if they were law abiding but criminals will always penalize their kids, no matter the action, in the end.
I was referring to illegal aliens who would have come here just to have a baby under the law & illegals are not law abiding.
