I've read an article in National Geographic that says there is a mayor male-female ratio imbalance in Phoenix and Las Vegas because of the large number of illegal immigrants going there for the construction business. In those places and also places in North Carolina, Virginia and here in Maryland there are new subdivisions built everyday usually by illegals from Mexico and Central America.

My question, what about when the boom ends. Any city can only grow so much, even in the Southwest and South. It may take 10 illegals to built a home but it only takes 1 maid and 2 gardeners/lawnmowers. Maybe it takes 100 illegals to contruct a office building, shopping center, or hotel but only like 10-15 to sweep the floors.

So those illegals just go home....or do they bring their families here too and then sit at home collecting welfare usuing fake social security numbers? Or do they just start forming gangs and dealing drugs? What do ya'll think about this?

As far as collecting money though Welfare, they have to be unemployed to collect it using a fake SS number. Since most of them use the fake SS number to work with they don't collect welfare. The only way they are getting welfare is by having babies in the U.S and declaring that one of the parents does not work or the father has left the family. And even then, more than 60% of people on welfare are legal citizens, so who's reaping the welfare money? We are.

Even if you are right, why should we give 40% of our welfare money to foreign citizens who came here illegally and then are probably sending some of it to another country?

I guess we can start by deporting that fourty percent. Work on deporting the balance after we get rid of the first fourty percent.

Your little survey says "People on welfare are usually black, teenage mothers who stay on ten years at a time" but leads off with, White 38.8%, Black 37.2, isn't 38.8 larger than 37.2 ? Dosen't that mean more whites on welfare? Which by the is what I have always heard, that whites make up the largest numbers on welfare. It also in no way talks about illegals.

Prologic can you look up the statistics on what percentages of free breakfasts and lunches in schools go to illegals?

Don't move to a boom town. They are eventually going to fail and you will be left all the problems including too many illegals & others who went for 'all those jobs' or whatever reason they ran there.

Your right, legal and illegal minorities alike take hold of programs like these. These sorts of programs are there so no child starves whether they're illegal or not. I'm not a fan of social programs, but this one definitely has to stay. Welfare has to go.

Don't know the answer to all of this, but it does bring to mind a profound irony which has never been very clearly addressed. How much of the appeal of illegals, as employees, is directly due to their illegal status; and what happens, when, and if, the day ever arrives that they become legal?

Everyone generally admits that the ilegal workforce is motivated, willing to work under harsh conditions, and is generally "docile". After all, that's the reason they're hired. What happens when they're made legal? It's hard to believe they wouldn't suddely demand a lot of changes for the better--such as more pay, more security, less work, etc., etc., etc.,--just like "legal" American workers. Eventually, it seems to me, they'd end up as nothing more than a group of highly-paid, militant, disgruntled, typical American workers whose only distinguishing characteristic is that they didn't speak English. What happens then? Does big business go of in search of a newer, more desperate group of illegals, leaving the "former illegals" (who by now are legal) to grumble about the "newer guys"?

To put it in other words:
"Would Illegals Still be Desirable as Employees if they Weren't Illegal"?.....hmmmmm

You made an outstanding point. The illegals who are now legal will want benefits and such. Which would cost wayy more money. Now its either the companies pay this extra money, or.. we have a huge A.. problem.
