The point I am getting at its racist to have bilingual Hispanic only jobs.

Can't most of agree?
Sadly, I suppose that you are unaware of your contradiction. How can hispanics be bilingual and only speak ONE language? There's a reason you ain't getting that job bud. Probably cuz you ain't even monolingual.

It is only a required job skill because of the need to pander to illegal immigrants and lazy Hispanic citizens who also want to be pandered to in Spanish. Funny how it is only Spanish that is being required even though we have immigrants here from all over the world who speak different languages, isn't it? Should we learn them all to accomodate every "immigrant" who migrated here? Isn't it up to the "immigrants" to learn our language since this is our country and they made the choice to migrate here?

Right? I've seen so many job postings requiring knowledge of SQL or Oracle. Hell, I have to take an SQL class, an Oracle class, and a SAP class this semester. Thanks, Obama. Down with the left-wing muslim socialist computer conspiracy!

I'm white (Jewish) non-Hispanic, nearly fluent in Spanish, and have been hired for bilingual positions in the past... so your premise is flawed on many levels, not to mention that BIlingual implies you speak BOTH English and another language. Don't like being beaten out by people like me? Learn Spanish! We're one of the only countries that refuses to encourage multilingualism, and this will hurt us globally in the long run.

Oh, and for whoever it was that asked "who would you be communicating with - illegals?" that was a really dumb assumption. I used to work with Spanish speakers at my old job, a public library, and the majority of my patrons were here legally (on work permits, green cards, even full citizens). How do I know? Because we checked their ID for card registration, and since residency/citizenship wasn't a requirement, they had no reason to show us false documents. Most of them would use a Mexican driver's license, along with their work permit which had a local address. In fact, some of them even had a local address on the foreign license, which I'm pretty sure means they applied for long-term residency. So drop the stereotypes, especially considering most people on this forum probably had/have an ancestor who immigrated here legally without working knowledge of English.

P.S. One of the reasons my old job required bilingual skills was because we ran an ESL program... if you really want immigrants to learn English, how else do you expect anyone to help them with that? Did you ever take a foreign language class in school, and if so, didn't they mostly instruct you in your native language? Such ignorance, I swear.

And it means that a mono-lingual English speaker won't get the job and will be discriminated against in his/her own country.

You against the free market now? I suppose you'd like more government regulations? Is your favorite Greek philosopher Hypocrates?

Tough **** then? I'm not complaining about being 'discriminated against' when a job requires a Master's degree, or a degree in engineering.

I agree, we are an English speaking country and native English speakers should not be discriminated against in hiring practices in their own country.

Is having to have a bachelor's degree in the field of education discrimination? Or do you think any high school dropout should be able to teach in public schools?

Is it discrimination Japanese language instructors should have to be able to...get this... speak Japanese? Or should you be allowed to take that job?

I'd like to be a doctor. Should I yell discrimination that I do not qualify for the job?

You must not live in California, because we probably have just as many immigrants who only speak a language other than Spanish... in one ESL program where I worked, we also had Chinese & Vietnamese instructors, who were in bigger demand than the Spanish-speaking instructors. Get over it, and learn to be bilingual (like the rest of the world) if it's hindering your ability to find work. Why are Americans so stubborn and prejudiced when it comes to this topic? This is why I avoid the Illegal Immigration forum like the plague, LOL.
