Reid acknowledged drafting the legislation will be difficult, but suggested Republicans must get on board to improve the current immigration system or risk alienating these voters which proved crucial in the 2012 election.
Reid says GOP ‘can no longer stop’ immigration reform

It all boils down to votes. Improve the current system? Please. No, this is all about amnesty for millions of illegals. Harry Reid doesn't care how amnesty will impact this country. Nor does he care if CIR is ever enforced. By his own admission, they will pass this "or risk alienating" Hispanic voters. This country could implode in front of their eyes, but as long as politicians can remain in power over the ruins, all is well.

The last amnesty saw CA turn Dem. And that was only 3.7 million. Imagine 11+ million ?
Why the Dems could take over and stay in power for decades.

Of course it's about getting the next major voting bloc on your side.

I guess I will never understand why the Hispanic vote hedges on ignoring our immigration laws and rewarding those who break them when it isn't in the best interests of this country. I wish the GOP and the Democrats would join together on this issue and demand that our immigration laws be respected as they are obligated to do. The Dems will still get the majority of the Hispanic vote anyway and the GOP will never do that no matter what they do. So why is granting this amnesty even an issue to either party?

Since they never even tried, of course they can't. It's all about bringing more cheap labor in and kissing up to the Mexican government which of course adamantly does not want it's people ever coming back.

which makes the GOP the Whig Party, and that brings about changes far more bitter than this for most conservs. Such as say hi to single Payer in 2017.

That is the reason the sane portion of the GOP is looking for compromise on this issue, and the House has taken a bold, first step. Reid is simply stating the truth in the Senate.
