I have traveled to Mexico many times in the last 5 years and have an observation:
The people I meet in Mexico are a better class of people in general than the Mexican's I meet in America. I like the Mexican people I meet in Mexico, but it seems like living in America has a negative effect on the Mexican immigrants here in the USA.
While the people in Mexico seem to be nice people I can understand why the country is poor. There seems to be more attention to just making it through the day and surviving than the longer term perspective found in American society. There seems to be a passive easy going perspective to life. Few of the TYPE A's (Agreessive) personalities common in America. Career Success and Education is not as important as having a good time, God and Family.
Is the Mexican Culture a big reason for their need to immigrate to America?
They don't see long-term perspective because education is required to be able to do so. A lot of people Mexico cannot afford to go to school because they need to work to help their families. They stop going to school before even graduating from elementary. Also, people cannot make "big" projects because they barely have enough money to make it through the week.
About you liking more the people Mexicans in Mexico than the ones here: yes, that is because the people who come here are the poorest, with no education. The thing is that a lot of people don't realize that Mexicans are NOT AT ALL like "chicanos".
The average Mexican encounters a Slim-owned business when she visits an ATM, drives a car, stops for coffee, and especially when she picks up the phone - Slim's Teléfonos de México controls 92% of the country's phone lines, and his América Móvil wireless service has a 70% market share. George W. Grayson, a professor of government at the College of William & Mary, coined the term "Slimlandia" to describe how entrenched the Slim family's companies are in the daily life of Mexicans.
It's not a reverential term. Many Mexicans hoped privatization, which began in the early 1990s, would create competition and drive prices down drastically. That hasn't happened. "Slim is one of a dozen fat cats in Mexico who impede that country's growth because they run monopolies or oligopolies," says Grayson. "The Mexican economy is highly inefficient, and it is losing its competitive standing vis-à-vis other countries because of people like Slim."
Mexico is not a democratic country, otherwise it would be "for the people and by the people".
Mexico is run by Billionaire dictator Carlos Slim Helú, and his cronies. President Felipe Calderon is just a political puppet.
Name me one dictator in history has had any concern for the poor of their countries, other than gaining their initial favor in order to over-throw previous governments?
Slim and his cronies (including Calderon) would love to see the poor Mexicans leave, and if the American government provides amnesty to illegal immigrants, then so much the better. Don't be so naive as to think that the fat cats in Mexico don't have a say in our current governments immigration stance.
Until, Mexico becomes a real democracy, poor illiterate Mexicans will continue to come here illegally in huge masses.

The Mexican economy is poor and underdeveloped because the government is corrupt. Mexico has huge natural resources that could be utilized to bolster the economy and raise everyone's standard of living. But the government is corrupt and owned by the wealthy elite. The result is a huge lower or underclass, almost no middle-class, and a tiny upper-class that controls and owns everything. I mean why should the wealthy elite in Mexico do anything for the poor unless they are forced to?
But when you think about it, why should the government of Mexico do anything for their poor? As long as the United States is willing to take in tens of millions of Mexico's illiterate, diseased poor why should the Mexican government have their own welfare or jobs programs? It's much cheaper to print a comic book that shows the uneducated poor how to leave the country and get into America.
I mean if America is stupid enough to allow tens of millions of uneducated, illegal aliens into the country, provide them entry level jobs that our own poor citizens need, free medical care at our ER's, give their children a free education, and allow them to pick and choose which laws they will obey, why should Mexico do anything to anything to develop their economy and provide for their poor citizens? They have a good thing going.

I just wanted to say that I do agree. I have never been mistreated while in Mexico. I have found the people to be friendly and respectful, but then, we are talking about people who love their country and do what they can to make it better and not about the cowards who run to our country to receive the freebies they can.
Just an additional thought....maybe if the Mexican culture was so good then the people would rise up and take over the government and see that the country boomed. There are examples of countries facing huge disadvantages and poverty that have turned things around such as:
South Korea after their War
Japan after WW2
China in recent years
Many Countries in Eastern Europe
Singapore
Look at China. Over a billion people living in a Communist Country with a terrible Government but the people are turning things around because they have a superior culture, why can't Mexico do the same?

We have to stop immigration, especially the illegal kind, but we have to clean our own house as well.
What has been said about the outrageously corrupt government/business oligarchy in Mexico is slowly, insidiously happening here. It’s a subject that appalls many when mention of this is made because it continues to be something that “can’t happen here.” It’s scary and horrible and overwhelming and what can be done about it anyway and . . . So it’s better to cry out that proposing such a thing is, well, outrageous and there’s no way it’s happening here! NO WAY!
Sorry, but it IS happening here—in little bits and pieces. The North American Union idea is to consolidate control of resources, control of production, and distribution. A new form of socialism built on corrupted principles of the greatest economic system ever devised—Capitalism. Even if there is no formal treaty signed or even a formal acknowledgement that such a grotesque “new order” is under way, it can still be established by agreements, codes, rules, regulations, and legislation that all help make it possible.
And of course the corruption of the economic system is leading to corruption of the greatest governmental system ever devised—American Self-Sovereignty.
Mexico is in the shape it is in because it's government lines its pockets while the citizens go hungry. Mexico is not a poor country, its people are poor but the government certainly is not. America is left holding the bill to feed and provide healthcare to the millions of illegals from Mexico while the Mexican government gets richer. Send them home and let their own government worry about them.
