OBAMA: "Real reform means establishing a responsible pathway to earned citizenship — a path that includes passing a background check, paying taxes and a meaningful penalty, learning English and going to the back of the line behind the folks trying to come here legally."

THE FACTS: The seemingly stern admonition that illegal immigrants must go to the back of the line, often heard from the president, doesn't appear to have much practical effect except in the most obvious sense. Everyone who joins a line, whether for a movie, a coffee or citizenship, starts at the back of that particular line. It's not clear he is saying anything more than that illegal immigrants won't get to cut in line for citizenship once they've obtained provisional legal status.

Like those living abroad who have applied to come to the U.S. legally, illegal immigrants who qualify for Obama's proposed path to citizenship will surely face long waits to be processed. But during that time, they are already in the U.S. and will get to stay, work and travel in the country under their new status as provisional immigrants, while those outside the U.S. simply have to wait.

FACT CHECK: Overreaching in State of Union speech - Yahoo! News

.................

While they may now be "in line", they are already here ahead of everybody else.

The line doesn't form within our borders anyway. The line forms in the immigrant's homeland.

Why not let legal immigrants come here & stay, work & go to school. After all they are following the rules? Even they are getting stepped on.

I have 0 respect for illegals.

It used to. Obama changed that too so now the line does form here in the US.
They do not have to go to their home country to file for a visa.

For at least the last several years (even before Obama became President), the majority of those gaining legal residency each year have been present in the United States beforehand. Those categorized as "new arrivals" (meaning that an Immigrant Visa was used to enter the U.S., and they had not done an "Adjustment of Status" from being a non-immigrant or other classification while living here) are increasing in percentages of the total in recent years, as visa processing becomes quicker. This data is listed in a yearly report, covering the current and two prior years.

The most recent (2011) report is at http://www.dhs.gov/xlibrary/assets/s...pr_fr_2011.pdf

So it really wasn't really something "Obama changed"...

The line to come here legally still forms in one's homeland. You don't come here illegally and form the line within our borders.

Because talking about "lines" and "visas" has nothing to do with legal immigration?...

Don't worry, it frequently comes up this way:

"We need more 'diversity' to the numbers we allow here, and those Mexicans take all the quotas."

"Yeah, their sponsors never buy them health insurance with a good dental plan."

"The ones that don't naturalize show how unloyal they are to America."

"Hey, aren't those legal immigration topics?"

"Nah, this is the illegal immigrant forum."

Sometimes during the course of discussion comparisons are made between illegal immigrants and legal immigrants. I see nothing wrong with that and obviously the mods don't either because those posts remain intact. How many times have you turned the discussion into legal immigration? So I don't understand why you continue to chastize others for it. Kind of hypocritical, isn't it?

As for diversity what part of Mexicans and other Latinos hold the highest quotas for legal immigation into our country is not the truth? Why do you object to diversity and feel that if they don't continue to hold the highest quotas is discriminating against them? What part of equal quotas for everyone is discrimination against them? Isn't it biased against other ethnic groups to want to continue with high quotas for mostly Latinos? You're not making any sense here.

Explain how each of the three sentence I use as examples (and matching closely what has been brought up before here) would relate in any way to illegal immigration:

"We need more 'diversity' to the numbers we allow here, and those Mexicans take all the quotas."

"Yeah, their sponsors never buy them health insurance with a good dental plan."

"The ones that don't naturalize show how unloyal they are to America."

Again, answer how your entire paragraph here relates to illegal immigration in any way. I'm going to make it easy on you, and start creating topics in the Legal Immigration section. Unless we have some lazy members that are unable to keep up, that plan should work out fine.
