Here's an Idea. If we ever get to the point of needing to re-instate the Draft, then we can ask all immigrants to enlist and earn a quicker pathway to citizenship. If they serve Honorably, then that proves they want to be here.
I didn't start this thread. It is still a fact that they can't serve in our military even if they do have to sign up for selective service.

I don't think our citizenship should be used as a bargaining chip. Even some of our own citizens don't join because of undying loyalty to our country. Sometimes joining the military is just a way to obtain job skills, see the world and earn money. Many of them never have to put their lives on the line for our country. Illegal immigrants already showed their dishonesty by being in our country illegally. From what I understand there is no shortage of American recruits since we have a job shortage in our country today.

They are required to sign up draft or no draft. You see our government needs to know who they are just in case they want to draft them..Lets be sure they sign up first,,just like your kid has to.

Actually the Selective Service registration is mandatory for males age 18 to 25 even if mentally/physically disabled, or "conscientious objectors". The screening process if activated will determine how a selected registrant will be handled. Only those males that already have qualifying service or that military obligation are excluded from registration (male Foreign Nationals that were transiting the United States at those ages are also excluded).

There have been both illegal aliens that are delayed from a waiver by their U.S. citizen spouse, and legal immigrants that are naturalizing affected by not registering with the Selective Service. Generally they are required to wait until they are age 26 (when the registration requirement is no longer in effect) to be able to proceed. Spouses on forums like Immigrate2US are advised by other members to have their male counterparts register as required.

Correcting myself, it is age 31 (five years after the requirement to register ends) that the typical point where they can then naturalize...

My complaint is that NO ONE is checking on these people to make sure they are obeying the law......this is screwed up . Our selective service program is broken and they better FIX it before they ever try to draft anyone.
