Majority of U.S. citizens say illegal immigrants should be deported - Yahoo! News

And yet there are polls saying the majority liked the deferred action and the majority are ok with amnesty.

I've stopped believing polls because there is not objectivity to polls anymore.
It's all in how they word the questions.

It depends how they ask the question. When they use the words Undocumented immigrants in the poll the people are easy on them because it confuses the issue. But if they use the words illegal immigrants or illegal aliens, more people say they want them deported.

Many of these polls use wording or ask questions in a manner that extracts the answers that the poll desires.

And maybe this one did too. It was an "online survey", which probably tries to randomly sample from all of the responses they received. Any online method doesn't poll from those that are not "Internet-enabled", and can have the "randomness" affected.

11% of sample had no categorization for the overall question, which is notable in itself...

"Attitudes toward immigration are polarized by party, according to another the Reuters/Ipsos poll. Seventy-five percent of Republicans think all or most immigrants should be deported, compared to 40 percent of Democrats who think the same".

Thank God for the sanity of conservatives on this issue and the 40% of Democrats. Since Hispanics are overwhelmingly Democrats I would say their attitudes on this issue played a role in the 60% of Democrats who don't want them deported.

As said, someone filling out an online survey is going to be more polarized, especially if it is focused on the topic that made them respond. A regular poll, even with very emotional issues like abortion, is going to have a segment answer that they have no opinion on the issue. For immigration in particular, that percentage would likely be higher than 11%.

Believe what you want then. I find it hard to believe that the majority of Americans want these people to remain here and retain the jobs that Americans need or to compete for those that are left. I find it hard to believe that Americans want these millions of poor, uneducated and unskilled to remain here and eventually be able to tap into our tax coffers if they aren't already or enjoying the long waits in our ER's and overcrowded conditions in our schools. Something lacks in logic here.

Please tell me this is real.

And how do most Americans define "immigration reform" as stated in the article?

It's simply not feasible to send them all back. You can't forcibly remove millions of people like that.

What about all the families it would split apart too? What about all the kids born to illegals who have grown up here, have no concept of life in their home country (beyond what their parents and older relatives tell them), and did nothing illegal themselves? Should we really punish them as well?

The ironic thing is the people who are most anti-illegal tend to be the most pro free market, when the reason illegals come is exactly because of market forces.
