A new report using records obtained from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) found that between 2008 and 2012, ICE issued nearly 1 million “detainers,” or “detention hold” requests asking local, state or federal authorities to detain a suspected undocumented immigrant. ...these detainers ended up including over 800 American citizens and over 28,000 legal permanent residents.

ICE is sure issuing quite a number of "detainers" for people to be saying they are being held from doing their jobs...

The stats are only through last year at some point. It was also just last year that Obama implemented his policy of no deportations of illegal immigants who don't have a felony conviction on their record. I woud think that ICE would have to detain them first to determine that. Don't confuse detaining with deporting.

Virtually no deportations are taking place. Not of US citizens nor of illegal foreigners who should be deported.

How many of these deported citizens have dual citizenship with the country they were sent back to or have never learned a word of English?

This is just more evidence that our enforcement system is a complete train wreck, and we also need a biometric national ID card.

Birth tourism is huge. Many foreigners come here to give birth (at taxpayer expense of course) to secure the handy-dandy US birth certificates as a kind of insurance policy. They can safely return home to live where the costs of living are far cheaper than in the USA, and this goes on in a very big way all along the border. These kids grow up in their own country, never learn English or anything of the American culture, but they can pull out their birth certificates any time and come on over. Of course they for all purposes are foreign citizens, they have that dazed and confused look of many fresh over the border types. It would be very easy for the most experienced border patrol agent to assume they are not Americans.
