I laughed at that one. That was a regular sight for me growing up. We bought the flowers a couple times. Nothing wrong with them selling the flowers, and I see it as nothing to be ashamed of.
A better question would be why would any Latino/Hispanic citizens be offended by negative remarks about illegal immigrants? Should I be offended over negative remarks being made about white bank robbers? Hmm.

They have no right to conduct any business in our country. Why aren't you getting that? It's not about shame but our immigration laws.

I don't recall reading about back then that the Irish were demanding that their illegal brethern not be deported in exchange for their votes, do you?
If you wanna get technical, any one who is not a Native American, is an illegal but back in the day, the illegal white men had bigger guns and were higher in numbers so nobody could deport 'em.
