Many Mexican illegals are returning to Mexico as the job market has picked up there. A lot of their children who attended American schools and learned English are finding good jobs in many of the industries starting up and expanding there.
The thing most Americans should be concerned with right now is 20-30 million illegals within our borders not returning home. The anchors, the parents, & grown adults that were bought here illegally as kids thinking they are citizens.

A bunch of liberal nonsense but we can dream I guess. The average illegal who has come to the U.S. from Mexico has about 8 years of education. They aren't qualified for higher paying jobs in the Mexican economy, which is why they're here. The lowest skilled jobs here, all they can do, pay a lot more than there, despite this fictitious booming economy south of the border. This argument, if you can even call it that, also goes against the argument that they're doing jobs Americans won't. Haven't heard on any labor shortages lately It also goes against the argument that their children will be loyal and productive U.S. citizens. Sounds like they're prone to go for the easiest buck. You may want to rethink this argument buddy.

They are here anyway.
There is no way to get rid of them.
If they are citizens, they will pay taxes.
If they are citizens, they will have to buy health care like everyone else.

or
make E verify mandatory for all employers including Joe too cheap to hire a licensed contractor. Make the fines and penalties so horrendous it simply isn't worth the risk of getting caught.
Make E-verify mandatory for all landlords. Same penalties and fines.
When illegals are caught seize their assets to help offset the cost of their deportation.
Make life impossible and they will self deport.

What is all this crap about contractors, gardeners, plumbers, etc. not being able to compete? Why can't they compete? Because the illegals charge less, presumably because they don't have to pay taxes, get insurance on their vehicles, etc.? Well make them legal citizens and they will!

Or are we really just afraid we still won't be able to compete

Sorry, I may be the only one, but I agree with claud605.

I didn't know that enforcing the law was something that was open for debate. If so, let's ask all drivers if they want speed limits to be enforced.

A person here illegally is a criminal. Deport them or jail them and throw away the key. You let one law go without enforcement and you may as well just stop law enforcement and have chaos. Looks like we have that already.

I take it you're not a big supporter of jury nullification...

Why "reward" bad behavior? ILLEGAL aliens NEED to remain illegal; especially those who came here as grownups. Sheesh!

Too; IF a bunch of illegals DID become "legal", they won't be worth as much to bad employers since they can DEMAND better wages and working conditions. They why hire a former illegal alien? It'd make more sense to hire a US citizen.

Obviously, not all of us agree that it's bad for them to simply come here. Not all of us think the provided "path to citizenship" is the only morally justifiable way. But if it helps satisfy your need to punish them, there could be a tax levied on them in particular to gradually "pay their debt to society" for coming here illegally. I'm sure most of them would agree to these terms.

And I don't think you know a thing about their needs...

That was precisely my point. Then it'd be back to (or at least much closer to) "may the best man win". People would be hired for their qualifications, not because they can't make the employer pay them minimum wage. Then, everyone would be happy

Polls. Last time it was brought to floor of senate under Bush it was dropped because of the volume of calls;e-mails and letters on Objecting to another amnesty. The 80's amnesty was said to be the solution to illegal entry and that is what we are talking about .People illegally entering the country ;plain and simple.
