There's nothing wrong with learning a second or third language. It's GOOD for you. Maybe that way, when you travel, you won't feel that if you yell in English loudly enough, people will understand you.
It's good mental exercise amd delays the onset of senility. It expands your horizons.

'The learnin'! It burns!

Immigrants to the US should learn English; they should not be FORCED to learn English, are you crazy!? You are going to force people to make a personal choice? Of course it is going to hurt them, but that is their problem. And of course most will assimilate anyway, it is truly a non-issue.

Legal immigrants are forced to learn English, why should illegal immigrants have different requirements?

Yet the many millions of illiterates coming over our borders should not be expected to learn another language?

They want the easy money and government handouts, but that's the limits to their ability to adapt and learn. Imagine moving to and living in some other country for 20 years and never learning to speak anything of it's language.

Why are we scraping the very bottom for immigrants? There are plenty of would-be immigrants who would make an effort to assimilate.

The numbers are staggering and are impacting education.
It's not a non-issue. It's more of a denial of an issue.

Yeah, it is interesting how we make it extremely difficult to legally immigrate to America, but illegals can get amnesty without any requirements.

Many if not most Americans do not travel outside this country and even when they do it is only necessary to learn a few words of the language of the country they are only visiting. There are other more useful things to learn and to expand your horizons if you plan on remaining in the U.S. tather than another language. Face it this is all smoke and mirrors to encourage Americans to only learn one langauge and that is Spanish. So let's cut to the chase, shall we?

Because many of them are uneducated and illiterate in their own language.
In the case of Mexicans the average education attained is around 5-6th grade.

What if you stopped going to school after 5th grade ?
How well would you be versed in your own language never mind be mandated to learn another.

I didn't say that, now did I? I merely said that it doesn't hurt to learn something new, rather than regarding it as some kind of inhumane punishment.
