That's why the primary focus needs to be on the employers who enable the illegals to stay here. That's the incentive to entering/staying illegally. After that's taken care of the problem will be vastly more manageable.
One motivator is our broken policies and procedures for the immigrant worker visa system. It's so slow and cumbersome, that both the immigrant workers and employees would rather break the law, then deal with it. If farmers did follow the letter of the law, many years their tomatoes would rot on the vines before the workers showed up.

I think it is possible to go after both the employers and the illegals. But I agree we should hammer the employers hard. Make it so costly if caught as to make the risk to great.
NPR featured an interview with Ted Cruz's father, this morning. My recollection of what was said is that he described himself as lazy, as someone who bribed his way to the USA, claimed asylum after his student visa expired and failed to consider U.S. citizenship for more than 40 years after arriving in the USA. He also sounded like someone who hasn't seriously learned/studied English. The Senator from Texas who is one of the leaders of the Americna Taliban might want to clean-up his family record a bit more before attacking others.
I listened to that same story. I don't think Ted Cruz should draw attention to his own father's immigration story, which to me doesn't demonstrate a firm commitment to the United States. Hell, he fought for CASTRO and then his parents bribed his way out of the country. "Right way" indeed.
Having said that, Ted Cruz is not his father. He doesn't have any control over what his father does.

We certainly hear the pro-illegal side say that very thing when they demand that people brought here as children not be punished for the sins of their parents. It is ironic that now the pro-side would seek to tar and feather Cruz for the sins of his father.

I appreciate you saying "pro-side" rather than "liberals".
We liberals can find so many things to tar and feather Ted Cruz with that it hardly seems fair to attack him over things his dad did.

I try not to use the broad brush. I know many people who call themselves liberals. Good people one and all. Most don't agree with allowing illegals a free pass, head of line pass, or rewarding them. Pro-illegal does not = Liberal. Liberal does not = pro-illegal.
Just as being anti-illegal does not= anti-immigration.
hardliners deal in absolutes. In real life there are very few absolutes.
