(2007-09-18) The Arkansas State Police has sent a letter to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement asking its troopers be able to arrest suspected illegal immigrants.
State Police Director Colonel Winford Phillips told a legislative hearing the state police sent the letter last week. The move comes more than two years after the Legislature voted to authorize state police graduates for an eight-week immigration and customs enforcement course to make the arrests during interstate highway traffic stops.
Phillips did not say what caused him to send the letter. After the hearing today, a state police spokesman said all questions to the director would be answered later.
isn't it sad that a police department has to ask for permission to uphold the law?
sad truth is ,that they do have to.
albuquerque police department was just recently handed written order by city council members to cease inquiring of the legal status of anyone detained by authorities.
all thank to the successful million dollar lawsuit initiated on behalf of three illegal immigrant h.s. students detained by apd at a albuquerque h.s. and later deported by the courts to mexico.(civil rights violations....my ass)
does law enforcement agree to the order, think it's right? i doubt it...
why else did they do it in the first place? to protect and to serve.
why else would men and women choose a carreer that risks their lives everyday for a meagerly 45,000 to 50,000 dollars a year, choose the jobs they've chosen?
their hands are tied, by courts, by mayors, by governors, by city councilors, sad fact, but it's true.
who do we blame? maybe, ourselves for allowing this type of stuff to happen to the average joes who give their lives for our safety...
see it happen...speak out...enough speak, they can't refuse to listen.
The Sheriff of Maricopa County, AZ, Joe Arpaio, got this ball rolling
He sent several hundred of his deputies to special federal training allowing the deputies to become sworn federal officers (as well as their regular duties). This allows the deputies to make arrests for crimes based on Federal law violations (illegal immigration) and work DIRECTLY with ICE. It is working very well.
Other law enforcement agencies around the country, seeing the success of this program, are now starting to respond in kind.
How can we be violating their civil rights? They're not here legally, they don't have any civil rights!

Anyone with a scanner now days here Highway Patrolman calling for an enterpeter. They catch these illegals with no drivers license, no insurance, no registration, and an ID Card. And they cannot speak English. These Patrolmans are busy. They should never have to deal with this, nor should County Mounties. That is another drain on the U.S. How did they get in the Mid West not knowing English and all the road signs are in English? It is just unbeliveable what goes on. Look at all the motorists in danger and the law inforcement in danger. It's not worth what they get paid.
I really dont get it. It doesn't make any sense. If you commit a crime, the police is gonna arrest you, right? Well, then tell me whats is the difference to other crimes. like coming illegally into the country? Police should arrest them, period, but again the problem never ends because too many people needs to OK the act. In the meanwhile, illegals who seems to know our legal system better than we do, they get all the benefits and get aways with their crimes as well. Too bad.
