PHOENIX (AP) ó The federal government has reimbursed Arizona hospitals and doctors $92 million over the past two years to offset unpaid bills for emergency care provided to undocumented immigrants.

Arizona hospital executives say they are grateful for the financial help, but itís still not enough to offset the bulk of costs associated with providing emergency health care to illegal immigrants.

To make up the shortfall, hospitals say they are forced to raise the costs of basic hospital services for everyone else.

So the next time a single parent is forced to choose between purchasing a new pair of shoes for his child or paying an illegal alien enriched hospital bill we all know why.

The federal government is US, so WE are paying for it. It's quite lovely that the state gets the money because they shouldn't have to pay.

But, I, too, do not want my money to go to illegals. I just love what the feds do with our taxes - NOT.

The federal reimbursement does not begin to cover the costs of caring for illegals. Once again, the hapless US taxpayer is left holding the bag.

Quote:
Carondelet operates one hospital in Nogales at the U.S.-Mexican border and three in the Tucson area. The Carondelet hospitals provided about $15.5 million worth of care to immigrant patients over the past two years, and the hospital network collected $2.4 million under the program, the company said.

That means less than 16 percent of the hospital groupís undocumented-immigrant-related bills were paid.
Quote:
Federal aid to hospitals dealing with an immigrant health care crunch could end next year.

The program was designed as a temporary fix for overburdened health care providers, and Arizona hospitals realize the financial aid may vanish at the end of fiscal 2008.

Arizona Sen. Jon Kyl pushed for the measure to help hospitals offset the costs with the idea that a comprehensive immigration-reform bill would take care of the problem.
Great.

Point of fact, reimbursement for the uninsured is not new, and not specific to Arizona.

NYS and its city hospital system (NYCHHC) has an uninsured pool to cover the costs for all those uninsured: legal, illegal immigrant and any other US citizen.

Hospitals have always written off an amount of charity care each year. This is nothing new. One would assume the money in the NYCHHC fund comes from the US taxpayer. To me, it does not seem quite right that portions of this money are used to pay for health care of illegal aliens who are here in violation of our immigration. There are far too many uninsured Americans who need medical care.

Where does our Dallas Parkland Hosptial apply? 70% of the births there are to illegals.

Hope y'all who are unaffected by the invasion don't mind that we take some tax dollars out of your pocket.

I believe it comes, for the most part, from Medicaid funds that streams into the state. I'd have to check for accuracy on this, so this is not a quote, but a surmise.

The US government collects taxes in order to finance public services and benefits. Medicaid is funded by American taxpayer dollars.
