Has anyone here ever been a minuteman or know one? I'm interested in their experiences.

Chris Simcox; he helped found the Minutemen.

That guy looks like my uncle, who used to be an illegal immigrant. Except my uncle was whiter than him-- he had blonder hair and green eyes.

I know a few of them, have protested with them, some of them have spent time at the border and sure enough illegals showed up first night. 50 bucks for background check to join, no felons allowed. They put themselves in harms way trying to make a point. I will admit it takes some guts what they do.

I know several Minutemen (and Minutewomen). I've marched with them, I've stood with them. They come from every walk of life, they are Black, Brown, White--I know a couple who are Asian, and two Native Americans. (That's just in the circle of folks I know in CA) Of course, you never see those people in the mainstream news media because they don't fit the stereotype that the msm has given to the Minutemen, i.e.; they are all bigotted, weapon-toting, redneck white guys with a vendetta against Mexicans and an urge to shoot something.

Actually, they're out there in the desert, alerting the Border Patrol to illegal alien sightings, handing out bottles of water to illegals who've come across the desert, getting medical care for many and being shot at by drug dealers. Wanna talk about doing the job that most Americans won't do....they're doing it.

I live not too far from Jim Gilchrist, who I believe was a MM "founder". He ran unsuccessfully for US Rep. here a couple of years ago. I believe he was "ousted" from the group after clashing with Chris Simcox.

You are correct about the multi-ethnicity of the members, and their SCRUPULOUS avoidance of any confrontation with the illegals. In fact. I heard of one Minute Man who was asked to go home, because he'd somehow "talked to" or "assisted" an illegal. His intentions were good, but he violated the "hands off" policy.
My understanding is that the MM's were constantly under the watch of pro-illegals from California, and the media, while they were on "patrol". I'm sure if they'd done the SLIGHTEST thing to "provoke" anyone, these groups would have been "all over them". Apparently their record remains "squeaky clean".

They're independently wealthy.....

Just like everyone else. They work.

It's a large enough organization. It isn't the same people on the border 24/7/365. They trade off shifts. Some are retired, some take vacation time. What I don't understand is why it makes a difference?

They are "regular" working people with "regular" jobs -

They are not unlike others with "regular" jobs who volunteer their time for issues that interest them

BTW, I have spent time on the border with the Minutemen
