The article argues that it's easier to secure our border than to stop the growth of the welfare state & increasing the number of workers via amnesty and additional visas will definitely increase the size of the welfare state. I think we should enforce current laws & make new laws that stops birthright citizenship from illegals, Make English the official language while making it a felony to break our immigration laws.

A secure border is really only relevant when considering terrorism ect.. A truly free society has nothing to protect regarding immigration. If I were to view immigration (open borders) as a life boat saving people from poverty it would be because of our republic, our capitalism,... basically the similar system of government that was in place when our country was new.

If it wasn't for the welfare state would any of us really be justified in getting so angry over immigration? The many who come here and want to work hard and raise a good family I have no problem with that. Its the deadbeats/criminals/terrorists ect that concern me. It's the political agenda of many of our politicians to redistribute wealth and buy votes and then the impending political agenda of those coming here to change our system of government that concerns me.

Look at socialists Europe and see how immigration is over there? It is destroying their countries.

Yes, I would still have a problem with illegal immigration and too much legal immigration even without the welfare state. The reason being is that a country can only sustain a given population with jobs and resources. A country should also have a right to retain its dominant culture and language. With unfettered "immigration" the above would occur instead.

We are not a truly free society.

Our society is free to citizens and legal immigrants but we all still have to follow our laws. It's not free for any foreigner to come here outside of our laws nor should it be.

We have a government that is eavesdropping on and spying on citizens.

And somehow we're to believe that only by allowing in millions or billions who want to come here for the good easy life of welfare handouts will make us free?

Even if there were to be some kind of amnesty -- why wouldn't illegals have to find employer sponsors who will pay legal wages, pay back social security taxes and FICA taxes on them, and provide them a health insurance plan?

If those coming legally have to jump through hoops like that, why should those who choose to break the laws just be handed their legal status - no employer sponsor needed, not even a family member sponsor needed?

Say illegals were to be forgiven for being here illegally, why would they not have to find a sponsor to promise to provide all their financial support like the legal immigrants must do? Someone should have to agree to house the illegal and provide for all his or her health care needs for the rest of their lives here before any legal status is given.
