Who is "you people"? 6 months ago? This has been an issue since before 1986, as I stated it goes back to the Carter admin, we can even take it back to 1965 and Ted Kennedy. The issue is still the same - Illegal Immigrants and Illegal Immigration. The solutions proposed have been heard, E-Verify is a big one, its simply a matter of the Feds mandating it now; some State and Local govt's already have. The issue is the PRO-illegals claiming things that haven't been shown to be accurate and their claim is racism or bigotry based on their inept understanding of our laws. When they are shown to be incorrect they begin with their tirades of name calling.
You people - the people on here that are so passionate about illegal immigration. Where have they been since 1986 when Reagan passed amnesty and over the years while illegal immigration continued?
You seem to think name calling is one-sided. Un-American? Anti-American? Disloyal to America? I asked before and didn't get an answer. How are the anti-illegals calling people those names different from what you claim is name calling from the pro-illegals?
Too bad that there aren't more like you. All some of us can do nowadays is cynically smile and shake our head. If things turn out badly, those that said they wouldn't, won't even acknowledge it.
Illegal Immigration. Every time I see that term, I wonder if everyone sees both words at once. Ever since Ronald Reagan, every President since has offered up much the same type of solutions and compromises. They saw both sides, and knew how tough a problem it was.
It's my opinion that neither "side" really wants a solution, they want things to stay as they are.
The funny thing is that I think the same about you. You are always reasonable and open minded. Hard years as vets may have tempered our opinions. LOL
The elected few do have the power to enact change and true reform. They instead spout talking points and hide behind excuses. They are really about party and only party goals. We the people are merely tools to achieve those ends. They know full well that free thinkers are vastly out numbered by the sheep. Their power base is more than secure.
I watched in amazement as a chemical engineer was paraded by Obama as an example of the average illegal immigrant. If a private company misrepresented their product in such an obvious manner they would be sued into bankruptcy.
On the other side they will parade every criminal of a violent act they can find to make their own case. I myself did it as a rebuttal to Obama's obvious pandering. I did it to make a point. Anyone can find the 1% of 1% and say this is an illegal immigrant.
What the bipartisan Senators came up with is an insult to any law abiding citizen as well as the millions who followed the rules and immigrated here legally. Yet they wonder why so many are outraged.

Like you I grow weary of the race card approach to debate. I also grow weary of the lame excuses:
1. All our ancestors were illegal immigrants.
2. Illegals only do the work Americans are to lazy to do.
3.Our laws are unfair
4. We make it too hard.
5. Our greedy employers are to blame.
I'll address the lame excuses and feel free to contribute.
1. There were no recognized immigration laws in the United States at the time of the mayflower.
2. No they work cheaper than Americans can work because illegals dont need to worry about paying taxes.
3. Fair or unfair every nation has the right to determine their own immigration laws.
4. Obviously not to hard because we allow more immigration than all other nations combined.
5. Only partly true. These greedy employers put a gun to no ones head forcing them to break our immigration laws. This excuse is as lame as blaming a home owner for a break in for not locking their
doors. Greedy employers need to be hammered with fines and penalties. I would agree to forcing them to pay restitution for any qualified applicant who was turned down in favor of an illegal. This can only be done if E-verify is made mandatory.

What difference does it make about where someone was in 1986 (me - just graduated HS and not 18)? 1965 (me - not born yet)? Whether its 6 months or 6 years.....so what. The issues are what need to be discussed, not the deflection of what you think prior to claiming "Why do you people act as if you just learned about illegal immigration six months ago".
So I guess we will need to do this by the process of elimination from the list, since you won't provide any specifics from among a dozen members...

I have been here since 1986 and opposed any amnesty. But as I said illegal immigration has reached critical mass now. Since 1986 illegal immigration has at least quadrupled in numbers. As an analogy, one might not pay too much attention to a little scratch but when and if it becomes infected one will certainly take more notice of that.
Years ago we didn't have 23 million Americans out of work and illegals taking over the construction and landscaping jobs among others.
No, the name calling isn't one-sided. However, there is a difference between pointing out the truth and name calling. Pointing out the truth to the pro-illegals is considered racist these days. Is it un-American to not respect our immigration laws and put one's ethnic group above them? Well yes, I would say it is. Could it be racist in nature then? Well yes, I would say it is. However, is it racist to object to illegal immigration and amnesty? No, I would say it is not. Is it racist to point out that the largest number of illegals here are from Mexico? No, I would say it is not. It is just a fact. However, we anti-illegals do object to all illegal immigration and have stated as such but the pro-illegals refuse to acknowledge that. You be the judge who are actually just telling the truth and who is resorting to name calling.
