I'd like to say it's no surprise since it's coming from a very liberal SF, but there are cities all over the country that are beginning to do this. This is a form of a document, and they will be able to use this new ID to get services.
I consider myself a Californian but anything coming out of The City will never shock me.
In a way, it does. I feel bad for California because they are so swamped with illegals anyway. If I had to guess which city in California would do this, I don't think San Fran would come to mind.

SF is a live and let live city, it is also home to about 45% immigrants and is very progressive.
SF is awful, it's a friggin zoo and an embarrassment to the rest of the country. Let's hope the Feds cut off funding to them. Maybe the terrorists will strike there after they get their ID card. If any city gets blown to kingdom come SF would be missed the least by the most. Maybe Pelosi will be home at the time.......

Don't feel bad for us, we are having a great time in NorCal. I'll be spending the weekend in SF, it is a great city and we have a great time every time we go there.
It certainly is an open minded city, and you see a real wide variety of folks.
