Not a good argument. Besides, what's your basis for a "worthy investment"?
If someone is "worthy" then they would not have any problems "footing" the expenses involved. We have more than enough freeloaders as it is.
can you show me the webpage that verifies the information in your previous post? you only addressed half of my response.
as far as a worthy investment is concerned, i look at it like this:
1. they come over illegally. we "foot their bill" and get minor contributions (very generalized statement).
2. they come over legally. we lose legal immigration fees, but are now able to have more taxpayers and less moochers, as well as saving costs on deportation, ICE and border patrol funding, jails and inmates, etc.
there are many more positives to the second option than the first. all we would be losing is a class of criminals and some immigration fees that could be made up quite easily.
Does anyone really believe that once they become citizens and realize just how far their little pay will go having to pay real taxes, that they wil not demand hire wages and benefits? So who will then fill in the low paying jobs?
And why not? Does this country not have a choice as to who, how many and what kind of people we allow to be citizens?
of course it has a choice. its how we justify our choice thats important. when you start placing immigration quotas, what are your guidelines? how do you determine the appropriate number of allowable immigrants? is it first come, first served? certain quotas per country?
read 'the new colossus'. its a poem affixed to the statue of liberty (i believe). it embodies true american ideals. tell me if it is inline with immigration quotas.
we already did immigration quotas. they have a tendency to be racist, and ineffective.

We already have immigration quotas. The problem is, the people coming here illegally, for whatever reason, are not following the legal process and therefore not part of the quota numbers. Our quotas are very high already for some countries, like Mexico. We could probably look at raising the current quotas for legal entry if we didn't have such a daily flood of people entering illegally.
The more that flood in the more our standard of living goes down. When businesses have to compete for workers the wages stay competitive. When a flood of workers come in and accept low wages then everyone suffers.
we have a hybrid capitalist/socialist system with worker protection. ever heard of the minimum wage? unemployment insurance? workmans comp?
if we have a flood of workers, it allows for the creation of more businesses that thrive off the cheap labor. it would be our opportunity to move UP. if you hang around the bottom, youll feel the affects. solution? dont hang around the bottom!

I highly agree with that statement. We are a highly developed nation, we each have an opportunity to go to college and get a good education. The cases where the kids have to work to support the family is very rare now a days.

Ok - who would "treat" and who would pay for said treatment? And, what if the health issue is a highly contagious illness such as TB? Would you still allow them to immigrate?

I think some of the younger people here do not seem to understand what freedom costs. They do not understand what citizenship is all about. We EARN citizenship.
ok, grandpa. tell us how you EARN citizenship besides being born here? not all citizens are required to serve in the military, or even have jobs. what did they do to earn citizenship?

freedom is what we fought for, right? so why would we not encourage freedom within our borders, and to the people that want to be part of this country? you dont want free immigration, but FREE is part of FREEDOM.
i do not understand why your idea of freedom means we get it and no one else does, unless they pay money. how does that make sense?

i pay for the benefits of many, and i rarely, if ever, have used these benefits for myself. it comes with the territory. if we dont try to welcome and educate our immigrants, this problem will not be solved. hell, we need to educate ourselves. but if you deny the immigrants a fair opportunity, youre shooting yourself in the foot. give them a chance. let freedom ring.
ps- the federal reserve act is mostly responsible for our decreased quality of life through dollar devaluation. why do we keep pointing the finger at immigrants? even if we deported them all, the banking system is still going to break us all. do you think its immigration that is causing record foreclosures? think about it!
Let's exchange the freeloaders here in the states for immigrants that actually want to work.
