Jerusalem (AFP) - Israel's parliament has approved a law which allows illegal immigrants from Africa to be detained for up to a year without trial, MPs announced on Tuesday.
I agree that illegals should be caught and deported, but why hold them for up to a year? That doesn't make any sense.
Agreed. It costs a lot of money to incarcerate them that long also. I think that those suspected of being in our country illegally and that are detained should have no more than a week to either prove they are here legally or not and then deported immediately if they are unable do that. At any rate they should not be held for more than 30 days.

Israel does not have a bottomless pit of money as the US does. Israel is a small country and has a very limited job market on the low end with whom Israelis (Arabs & Jews) who need those jobs and actually pay taxes. Each one caught is a potential job for an Israeli. If by what was stated in the past few posts and they were released pending deportation, Then they would disappear into the Ethiopian population and have to be re-caught again since we know from the US they will never show up for their deportation.
But there is an alternative. Since they all had to cross through Egypt to get to Israel, then deport them all to Egypt and let them deal with them.............................Oh wait Egypt has a standing order to shoot illegals on site. And once Israel walks them out into Egypt and they are far enough out of camera site, they will simply disappear. So choose.
By the way Africa is a continent and not a country, so what country would you deport them too if they don't want to state where they came from?

My remarks were about the illegals here in the U.S. not those in Israel. And no, the U.S. does not have a bottomless pit of money.

Even if they are deportable, Where do you deport them to if you don't know what part (in the case of Hispanics) of Central or South America they came from? You can't just dump them all in Mexico since Mexico is not that much different from Egypt.

I imagine most of them tell the authorities where they are from.
