"Until 1986, the United States had never forgiven the act of illegal immigration in other than individual cases and had never rewarded large numbers of illegal aliens with the opportunity for U.S. citizenship."- NumbersUSA

Correct me if I am wrong, but according to Numbers USA amnesty for illegal immigration used to be granted on a case by case basis. The 1986 IRCA was the first time blanket amnesty had been granted to millions without knowing much about them except that they were here illegally. Since individual amnesty has been granted before in deserving cases, I think it would be OK to do so here. Yes, I can see La Raza salivating at the thought of making every single illegal alien, even hardened criminals, a 'deserving' case, but maybe reason will prevail (for once).

Great point, Hawkeye!
