We'll talk about getting rid of minimum wage if ALL immigration is totally stopped into the US and IF an employer hires especially an illegal alien, the employer goes to prison, no if ands or buts.

Are you serious?

Do you even have a clue as to what education is needed to do computer programming? You think computer programmers are on equal footing with unskilled labor? OMG!

Then again, you're only 18 years old and your family is wealthy. Please don't say otherwise. You were in another CD forum telling everybody that you were planning on buying property in NYC that was in the 2-3 million dollar range.

Of course I know that computer programmers are skilled labor. I am the director / liquidity provider of an application development company.

However, I will tell you right now that most programmers and developers are over paid. And I am not talking about the ones who work in major companies like Google, but the ones in Washington, D.C. that work for defense contractors.

I was talking to my business partner a few weeks ago about a decision he made to contract a programmer in Boston and pay him $50/hr. I was shocked about the price, but I thought "oh well, as long as it's good work." When we received the code, it was made terribly and a close majority of the core looked plagiarized.

I have previously employed/contracted coders and programmers (not developers) from India which I found on a forum willing to work for $7.50 a day, which worked out at $0.67/hr. I found that the work they produced was of high quality, and that their vocabulary and writing skills were better than most Americans, however they were under 18 at the time, so even if we did abolish minimum wage and the need for working visas in the high-technology industry, we would still need to abolish child labor laws which would be very, very difficult to do.

You will also find that we have a glut of talented, skilled, but unemployable American programmers who are not willing to "trade hours for money," who are politically unmotivated to join the workforce and go into organized crime. I am not saying all do, but I am saying I've met helluva lot of them that have.

We should be encouraging talent and skilled people from all around the world. If a company wants to employ someone from another country instead of an American, let them do so. We don't live in some sort of communist/socialist country where a corporation must employ local people to benefit the local society or community.

You just want slave labor---how disgusting of you to exploit people in third world countries.

We have a glut of...American programmers...who are politically unmotivated to join the workforce and go into organized crime. Really? Do you have a link to back up this absurd assertion of yours?

Sure, you can move to India, for example, and employ IT people there. No one is stopping you from moving there and doing so. What are you waiting for?

And I do understand where a lot of you are coming from regarding the "STEM shortage" because I have met a pizza delivery guy who had a major in Computer Engineering from NYU-Poly. However I don't understand the argument of why you're against highly skilled workforce from entering the country? It would lower the average salary and provide companies with more talent to devour.

What I personally have a problem with is the fact tons of defense contractors, both big and small are getting large contracts by the DoD and the U.S. Federal Government and employing CS/CE majors and offering a $100,000 to $250,000 starting salary on taxpayer money. Defense contractors are essentially civil servants and should be paid like them. I believe on a $100,000 cap on all government workers and private contractors which get more than 50% of it's funding from the government.

I have no statistic to prove it. However, take my word on the people I have met.

What I am saying is paying 7x the minimum wage doesn't mean you will get a better job than someone paying 10x less than the minimum wage.

Thanks to the internet, we can telecommute to work. However, I would like these people over here.

As long as we have thousands of unemployed American citizen STEM/IT workers, we have no need for H1-B visa workers. If ever we reach the stage where every American citizen STEM/IT worker is fielding multiple offers and jobs are going unfilled, then bring H1-Bs here as guest workers. If the job market for STEM/IT workers tanks, then send the H1-Bs home.

Of course you have no statistics to prove your absurd assertion.

Don't you understand that someone who went to school for a degree is not going to turn down honest work and opt to work in organized crime? And if they come out of school with thousands of dollars in student loans, they are not going to take minimum wage work in their field. Perhaps when you're older, you'll understand.
