Building a 96 mile Berlin wall around half a city in Germany is in no way comparable to building an 1800 mile wall between USA and Mexico,,
Even if this $8 billion wall is built there are just too many ways around it,through it or over it.
So go ahead and build the wall and be prepared to be amazed at how little it affects the American illegal alien issue.
For the umpteenth time there was/is no plan to build an 1800 mile wall. Congress approved an 800 mile double wall and only on the most porous areas of the border. The Border Patrol would then be able to focus their attention on the remainder of the border along with technological support. On a sector of the San Diego border this double wall was erected. Illegal immigration was cut back to a trickle. Of course a physical barrier would have to be coupled with removing the incentives to come here such as e-verify, removing benefits and birthright citizenship for those coming here seeking economic gain.
I find it interesting how the defenders of illegal aliens keep wailing about how the wall won't work, the costs, etc. If it won't work then why cry about it since they claim their chosen group will still be able to get through anyway. Yet they have no issue with the costs involved with allowing illegals to come here which are far more vast than the costs of the wall.

I'm no defender of illegal aliens and think more devoted to enforcement would produce better results than an expensive wall that can be circumvented in too many ways..

But.....we send our guards to prison......and then the illegals testify

So walls don't work? Couple it with e-verify, removing benefits for illegal aliens including birthright citizenship for their kids and we would have illegal immigration down to a trickle. Terrorists and criminals aren't looking for jobs therefore just another reason to have a good physical barrier.

"Enforcement" is a farce.
They are not immediately deported when captured.
They are practically welcomed and set free in the US with a "show up later" piece of paper.
Personally i'd be one of those crossing legally and just end up staying, or take a vacation to Canada and just walk into the USA from some point along 5500 miles of undefended border.
How would you get to Canada without a passport? It's much tougher to go into Canada as an American Citizen than it currently is for illegals to cross into the US on the southern border. Flying into Canada requires going through Customs. You could always get a rowboat. When you arrive you can tell them you are Popeye.

Why do you automatically assume that Mexicans dont have or cant get passports?
Its not hard for a Mexican to legally acquire a Mexican passport and use it to take vacations to anywhere they wish including Canada and the USA..
As for being tough to cross the border? not tough at all if you are a tourist or if you care to sneak into USA or Canada you've got 5000 miles of unprotected border to chose from with no fence at all.
In fact here in Canada this migrant demographic is welcomed legaly under several federal programs .http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/migran...from-1.1137930
Does this mean you are not a US citizen or that you are one of the people on the government teat and are not paying any income tax?
I'm Canadian living in Canada,I'm enjoying this debate about the pros and cons of building this wall to keep out illegal aliens i hope it remains a debate and not an argument,

But for someone coming from south of the USA border with Mexico, it's not easy for anyone without a sponsor to get into Canada first and then go into the USA. Yes it would be easy for them to get past the unprotected border from the US into Canada, but if they are already in the USA, what would be the point? Well, if they are headed to Alaska, maybe...
