The same is said of US citizens going to other countries you're fear mongering for no reason at all. How did H1N1 come to the US from Hong Kong? From visitors! Not illegal immigrants! Nobody performs vaccine checks in airports or at the immigration counter. For goodness sake, janelle, you really are reaching

I certainly agree with you. It's a whole lot different when you have thousands crossing our border every day illegally coming from squalid conditions whom most probably haven't been vaccinated for communicable deseases. It becomes an epidemic not a risk here and there.

It IS true that illegals can bring diseases here. The point is the risk they bring is pretty small because - compared to legal visitors to this country - their numbers (large as they may be) are TINY in comparison. There's an estimated 12 million illegal immigrants here in the US at the moment (according to an article in rightwing CNS news) with the number of people entering the U.S. illegally each year estimated at around 700,000.

In comparison there were 69.6 MILLION legal visitors to the U.S. last year.
Odds are, far more diseases will arrive here legally than illegally - FAR MORE.

TB is a disease that will be on the way.....just wait.

It's already here.

And doctors are frustrated to nearly the point of tears. It seems that they give the illegals the proper meds to deal with their TB---and the illegals either refuse to take them or they start taking them, then don't complete the first course. When that happens, you end up with drug-resistant TB.

I once read about a town in MN where illegals, complete with fake documents, started taking jobs in the local meat packing plant. Of course, when they arrived, crime went up. Then it was discovered that many on the local police force showed signs of exposure to TB.

TB cases are DECREASING in the U.S.
So much for the ignorant idea that illegals are bringing the disease here.

A resurgent TB peaked in 1992 and since then has been going down year by year.

Are you saying that along with obtaining a passport visitors aren't required to have inoculation records? It's news to me. My guess would be that if someone can afford to visit here they aren't coming from squalid conditions as most illegal aliens are and are more than likely to have had health checks.

Well then it's news to you.

"There are no vaccination requirements for visitors to the United States. For information on US-based infectious disease outbreaks currently being reported by CDC, please see the CDC..."

Plane passengers are the number one way disease is spread internatonally into the U.S. Illegal immigrants aren't even close.

Then it should be a requirement. Illegal aliens aren't even close? Please.....I already explained to you why they are more of a risk.

They can carry diseases, but their numbers (large as they are) are TINY in comparison to the number of legal visitors. There are more than 70 TIMES more legal visitors to the US every year than illegal immigrants. Those much larger numbers far increase the risk from legal visitors.

Additionally, legal visitors usually fly here - which means they get here from anywhere else on earth in mere hours. This means they can get a disease and not even have any symptoms yet before they arrive.

Illegal immigrants usually take weeks or months to get from their homes in South or Central America to the U.S. during which time any diseases they bring from home are likely to have ALREADY laid them low before they even cross the border.

It's the very SPEED of jet-born travel that makes the spread of disease so much more likely. That SPEED is what most scares the CDC. Illegal immigrants don't carry that kind of risk. That's WHY the CDC doesn't really focus on them. The risk from illegal immigrants is wayyyyyy less than from legal visitors. You may not want to believe that, but in that case that's your political convictions talking rather than medical common sense. Medical common sense says quite clearly that the biggest risk is from the much larger number of folks who travel here far too quickly for medical symptoms to even appear yet. Jet travel is the way AIDS arrived here, the way MERS is arriving here, and way Ebola is feared to be in the process of arriving here. Jet travel terrifies the CDC.
