It's a stupid idea. Those who chose to be here illegally should live with the consequences of their actions. And they should prepare for a trip back home.
It would have to be made CLEAR that this will be the FINAL and LAST amnesty and that there will be no more and from here on anybody caught in the country will be locked up and deported upon discovery and that anybody caught hiring, aiding (except for emergency services), transporting or sheltering anybody in this country illegally will be JAILED.

No we need enforcement of our laws now, not a slap on the hand for law breakers.

We do need amnesty

The American people do not want any more amnesty

Enforce the current laws

Change the law to allow the military to patrol the borders

It was made clear back in 1986 that it was the FINAL and LAST amnesty. Amnesty now is pure and utter BS and against the wishes of the majority of the citizens of this country. Exactly how many of the final and last amnesties do you want anyway?

I think that, if the amnesty were coupled with a no non sense penalty and border bill and that if it was made clear that this will be the last and final amnesty, that most Americans would be willing to swallow it. We might not like it but we all know something needs to be done and sending 6 million people home is not pratical or humane thing to do. I think a bill that includes:

1. All applicants for amnesty must have NO criminal or DUI convictions
2. All applicants for amnesty must take and pass a basic English test
3. All applicants for amnesty must have a full time job or be enrolled in school
4. All applicants for amnesty must "come clean" and pay any back taxes (no fines though)
5. Once approved such applicants will only be eligible for Probationary Residency which will last for a period of 3 years. If the applicant stays out of trouble with the law, learns at least basic English, pays any taxes owed and keeps a job, after 3 years the applicant will be adjusted to Permanent Residence status. Only after 5 more years may the applicant apply for US Citizenship but we will waive that if the applicant serves in the US Armed Forces.
6. Anybody caught hiring, transporting or harbouring a person illegally in the United States from this day forward will face the following:
1st offense $10,000 fine
2nd offense $100,000 fine
3rd offense will be a felony and 2 years in Federal Prison and confiscation of business, home or vehicles used in the employment of illegal immigrants.
7. No state, city or political enity shall issue any official state ID, drivers license or other documentation to any person not legally in the country.
8. The USA Mexico border shall be sealed with a fence and patrolled by armed border patrol agents 24/7. We shall allocate whatever it cost to do so.
9. Any state or local official attempting to defeat the intent of this bill shall be deemed guilty of high crimes and removed from office.
10. Any illegal immigrant expelled from the United States who re-enters illegally shall be guilty of a FELONY and shall serve a prison term of not less than 3 years prior to being deported again.

No, no, no, no, no.

No amnesty.

No rewards for breaking the law.

What a joke.

The OP boils down to this:

"The solution for unenforcement of current laws is...

...[drum roll]...

...You guessed it. Enactment of new laws!"

These new laws will be called the "We really really really really really mean business this time Act." (Of course, the word "business" will be argued in court as a loophole.)
