Goes something like this.

It's a poem, not policy.

Would it be OK for me to come live in your home???

Or, do you lack "compassion" and "generosity"???

When the Statue of Liberty was erected, this country had room to expand. Plus we were largely an agrarian and industrial society. Back then, illiterate people (both Americans and legal immigrants) could easily find work. Plus, there was no welfare.

When immigrants landed at Ellis Island, they were checked for diseases, both physical and mental. Not all were allowed to stay. Many were put right back on the boat that brought them here.

It's 2014 now. Our population is over 300 million. We are running out of potable water and buildable land. Plus we allow 1 million legal immigrants per year into this country. I applaud legal immigrants. They obeyed our immigration laws to come here, with some waiting years in refugee camps. However, we simply can not continue to take in 1 million per year. We also need to get rid of illegal aliens. No need to round them up. Just make life so difficult for them that they will leave on their own accord. Would you stay someplace where you can't find work or collect welfare?

It would be a bit tight for me to take on new family members but if you are in real need we can make room in the basement, i'd also have no problems having my taxes raised to help out the less fortunate or those in need through social programs.

We aren't compassionate and generous anymore? We send billions to other countries. Compassion shouldn't mean importing the whole world's poor here. It would be killing the goose that laid the golden egg. Then were would immigrants have to flee to?

When the government isn't compassionate and generous towards its own citizens I'm not sure why anyone with a clue would assume the government should be both towards foreigners

We can't even take care of our own citizens! If these children are allowed to stay in this country without their parents, we should take them in and put them up for adoption with Americans and their parents no longer have any claim to them!

DHS and ICE knew this was going to happen.

They put reqs out in January for transportation for 65,000 unaccompanied alien children.
They were looking for air and ground transport to bring these kids to "Refugee Resettlement Shelters" throughout the continental US.

January 29, 2014 people.

IMO, they shouldn't be allowed to stay. It just sends a signal for more to come. We don't need the added population depleting our resources. These so-called kids are near child bearing age and that just adds more population growth to our country down the road.
