Snowball7, don't want to put you on the spot so don't answer if you don't want to. Have you asked or do you know whether your gardener is here legally or not? Just curious regarding someone who's been here for 14 yrs. Also curious to know if people generally ask.

I was just fixing to ask her the same thing. Do the two men have their green cards?

BTW...it is not the capitol that has all the murders.

The capital is Tegucigalpa....Detroit has more murders.

List of cities by murder rate - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Maybe not Tegucigalpa, but Distrito Central does contain Tegucigalpa, and Distrito Central has a much higher murder rate.

San Pedro Sula has the highest murder rate in North America, 187 murders per 100,000. Detroit, however, has a murder rate of 47 murders per 100,000.

Guatemala City, Guatemala has a murder rate of 68.4 murders per 100,000.

Why would these poor So. Americans fear being killed? They certainly wouldn't have any money that these murderers would be interested in. I would think you would only be at risk if you are involved in something sinister such as the drug trade.

The excuses of their lives being in danger make about as much sense as me claiming I fear the crime that goes on in L.A. when I live a long ways away from there.

You don't have to be rich to get murdered. In fact, the richer you are, the less likely you are to get murdered, for you can allocate resources to protect yourself better.

Not for much longer. We've had to deal with the Espanol telephone options for decades now, which is totally counterproductive to reinforcing English as the main language.

Espanol options are always given BEFORE English. The lay of the land is quite clear.

Of course but why would these poor So. Americans be claiming they are in fear of being murdered? What would the motive be?

Not true about the "para" thing. English is used 1st unless it's something that's def pitched to Spanish speaking people.

It isn't hard to get murdered in a gang-infested place, especially if you live in the thick of the violent areas. Gang members have been known to kill even innocent by-standers.

A better question is this: Why wouldn't someone fear for their lives? Alot of Black people living in violent areas of major cities often want to live in safer places.

Not where I live. Almost every call I make has Espanol first, including my bank and utility company, Social Security and Medicare. Want to report a gas or electric emergency or check their hotline??? Navigate that disgusting "Espanol" first. Call my cable/internet company? First I gotta choose a language - and the first language I hear is NOT English - gotta wait through all the Espanol gobbledygook before I even hear there is an English option.

For now, I live in a lily-white' suburb. I avoid using the telephone for anything these days if it can be handled online - because of this. Drives me up a friggin' wall and has - for years.
