There's nothing protectionist about having a sane immigration policy. We take in over a million legal immigrants per year; that's pretty generous IMO.

The unions used to be against illegal immigration, but support amnesty now because they want to organize all these workers and increase union power.
Agreed and word is NO Schengen country in Europe has "open borders" with non Schengen places.

True about some Libertarians (if not most) supporting open borders. As a Libertarian leaning conservative this is one part of the Libertarian platform that I do not agree with. I understand why Libertarians believe in open borders BUT IMO you can't have open borders with a country that is not equal economically and "democratically" to your nation. The difference between Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Honduras to the U.S. is night and day for obvious reasons. Now, an open border with Canada and the U.S. could possibly be achieved but with gigantic obstacles to get there.

-Cheers.

True. The USA and Canada for example could have an open border. Living conditions and development are on par with one another. Our Southern neighbors? Not so much.

Guess what? Even after Reagan passed the regrettable 1986 amnesty, Hispanics still voted majority democrat.
I agree.

The Reagan Administration could have fixed the immigration issue then after granting amnesty by implementing strong labor hiring laws and a strong identification system. Amnesty could have been the 'closing door' for further illegal immigration after the lucky ones got their amnesty. Back then there were less people. It was another time. A golden opportunity was lost. Now? Forget it. Far too complicated. Too many people. Too expensive to fix. Sell-out government.

The new generation illegal is here for the handouts and freebies. Jobs? What jobs? These illegals have third grade education. What skills do they have? How are they going to contribute? Are they going to invest in a start-up and hire 50 techs right off the bat? Paying sales tax on the items they buy at the 99 cents store is hardly contributing. The ones that get a job will send 50% of what they earn back home via Western Union. So check it out: The illegal gets help from the American taxpayers. Free lunch and education for the kids. They get paid in cash and pay no income taxes and send a nice chunk of their earnings back home. What a country!!!!!!!!!!! Meanwhile the Democrats are happy because they have future voters and their constituent base mushroomed. The ones that are against illegal immigration will be the racists. What a country!!!!!!!!

And yet liberal votes are still acting like happy cuckolds. You blame the government? Look around?

Do liberal voters dare speak their mind?
