Bummer, teachers didn't put together packets of work so you could take off and do the work at your leisure? LOLS. I can just imagine the schools reactions if a group of us would have said we need to be gone to see family, and probably would go over our 10 day off allotment, so put some work together for us, we'll do it whenever. I realize they don't ask for the work. The teachers are just trying to help.
"To curtail the missed class time, districts are trying a variety of approaches. In some California districts, officials decided to avoid the problem by adding a third week to the winter vacation."

That just blows my mind! WOW! If my kids were in that school, I'd be having a fit. I would imagine they would have to be the schools which are 100% Hispanic. Right?

Just more proof that they think of themselves, and are treated, as the chosen people these days. Why in the hell doesn't ICE sit at the border and bust their parents and the other illegals and send their criminal butts back to where they came from?

I know in my daughters school if she has 15 or more unexcused (as in she was sick) absences, she has to do the year over. No tutoring will get you past it.

During the year you are expected to call in to let them know your kid is sick. If you let those 15 days pile up, they will expect a doctors note rather then just a word from you saying "oh yea, my kid was sick those first two weeks of December".

What I don't understand is why the police aren't waiting to talk to these people when they return.

Really the schools are the ones out of touch here. They should give a month off for the holidays. From Dec 15 to about Jan 15 and shorten the summer months off to compensate for it. Really the students get too much time off in the summer. They should get the month of July off, a week in April, a week for Thanksgiving, a month for Christmas and New Years and that should be it!

Why? Destroy the American tradition of summer vacations and family travel to accomodate Mexicans? No way. If Mexicans cannot adapt to the USA way of life -- then they really need to move back home.

That's a more European schedule.

If schools are going to change their vacation schedules, they need to do so to benefit ALL students, not to accommodate a group of people who seem to not value a benefit that the rest of us pay a LOT of money to provide.

I see no irony here:

The bottom line is that American culture is based on British culture, and Great Britain is a part of Europe.

As for the indigenous peoples here; they were not strong enough to prevail, rightly or wrongly.

So: the dominant culture rules; whether the Aztecs in Mexico prior to Cortez, Romans in southern Europe ca. AD 100, Zulus in parts of southern Africa, etc.

In other words; it is not just a 'White' thing.

Ever think maybe it's because what they do isn't illegal and the police have better things to do?
