1) How do they face a permanent ban if nobody knows they were here in the first place?

2) There are consequences for coming here illegally, and if there is a ten year ban, then after ten years they can apply to come here legally. It's as simple as that.

3) Ten years is not forever; it's ten years.

4) Who said it was supposed to be easy? Why should people South of the border have it any easier than anyone else?

Why is this concept so hard for people to understand?
Also why is there not this kind of sentiment for the struggling poor in our own country? Do they not want a better life too? And get this..... they are not crossing over into our country like criminals in the night!
Why are the illegal lovers not fighting for better living conditions for our poor American's?

Because they have contempt for poor and working class Americans.

They will readily slander both the work ethic (too lazy, too demanding, too slow) and culture of lower-class Americans (white trash, ghetto, etc.).

But watch out, cause "these people" will be the first to throw the racist xenophobe right back at ya.

Yes, sadly I fear you are very right!

I've discovered that media consistently gives much more coverage to candidates who are for illegal immigrants staying here, or to go home and then return here quickly...as Huckabee wants.

Default Milborn, I've thought about this also.

How many of us have seen our own poor, poverty ridden, starving, citizens hold protests, and march for their rights? I have never seen one do it. If anyone has the right, it is these people, our own citizens. There should never be an American citizen going to bed hungry!

How right you are, especially when illegals and those that love them, are out there protesting and demanding that we give them what they have no right to in the first place.

If they are living here illegally and have not been previously deported (another matter altogether) then it stands to reason that they are already flying under the radar. I'm sure it's just as easy to sneak out of the U.S. as it is to sneak in. I seriously doubt that illegal aliens are marching back in to Mexico carrying signs which proclaim their illegal status to any nearby Border Patrol.

So the situation you describe only applies to those who have committed the felony act of illegal entry after deportation and multiple law breakers SHOULD be prevented from coming back.
