DoD policy will allow some immigrants in U.S. illegally to serve

A small number of immigrants living in the U.S. illegally will have an opportunity to join the military for the first time in decades under a new Defense Department policy unveiled Thursday.

The new rules will expand an existing program allowing recruiters to target foreign nationals with high-demand skills, mostly rare foreign language expertise or specialized health care training.

For the first time, the program — known as Military Accessions Vital to National Interest, or MAVNI — will be open to immigrants without a proper visa if they came to the U.S. with their parents before age 16. More specifically, they must be approved under a 2012 Obama administration policy known as Deferred Action for Child Arrivals, or DACA.

Good Lord - it's only going to get worse until we stop taking the bait to fight each other and take back control with common sense and voting good people into office. It's going to take at least one more major crisis for that to happen.

Why would people interested in the best for America allow this to happen?

This is like an executive order without the executive.

Ugh

Really, who among them would have high demand skills when they aren't even allowed to work in this country? Where did they acquire these skills? Who among them would have rare foreign language skills or specialized health care training? Where did they acquire these skills?

I'm really starting to HATE Obama. He's nothing but a 3rd world dictator and I'm sorry I voted for that man in 2008.

Sadly (and this makes my blood boil) there are those illegals who arrived in the 90s. They looked for a Border Patrol Agent and said "I'm an OTM. Give me my temporary work permit, court date and SSN." --- And they got it. Of course, when they also got their court dates, they never went and no one looked for them either. Many of these OTMs did get ordered to leave the country and never left.

There is one who regularly posts in a newspaper's comments section and brags about how he refused to leave the country when no one bought his fake asylum claim. He managed to go to college and become an ER nurse. He thinks that he is entitled to amnesty because he "pays his taxes" and that this country owes him a green card. The most annoying thing? Stories like his aren't uncommon

The ONLY thing we owe their kind is 3 hots and a cot then a quick return HOME with a 20 year ban on ever coming back to the US.

Sorry these people should not have this right. Would this happen in another Country, if the illegals were Americans.

When we give in to them like this, what does this say. I am sicken by this move. I am tired of all the sob storys out there, which many Americans also have.

I am sorry, the next President whomever he or she may be, better have some ball-s to do what is right.

What exactly is it you're whining about here? What's your issue with the program exactly? Foreign nationals can enlist in the US military now. You're mad that they're letting foreign nationals who are already here enlist. It's not like that's a big change.

Again, what is it you're whining about?

Uh; those people being talked about are ILLEGAL aliens. They DON'T have any right to live in the US. Let alone be allowed to handle guns in our military.

Obama is cutting back the military by the 10s of thousands. Every illegal permitted to enlist bumps a real American who wants to enlist. Not surprising from a president who appears to hate America.

There is a long history of using immigrants in our military. Check back to Civil war as the Irish were bought off for $300.00 as they stepped off the boats in NYC and Savannah.

The rich have been paying to have the poor serve in their wars for centuries.
