What hogwash. You seem so hung up on race, I hope with education you can overcome your prejudices.

In other words: it was not just some Spanish speaking Indians who were dumped on during that era.

And I will not even go there re: Blacks and Jim Crow.
Now, isn't that the truth! The attempt by pro-illegals to hijack the Civil Rights Movement is an affront to all who fought and died for the cause. There simply is no comparison.

That is Hungary's problem, not my country's issue.

Besides; some Roma are moving into positions of power in the Hungary--------such would have been unheard of even 30 years ago.

To everyone else here on C-D; the Roma are also known as 'Gypsies'--------and, they are essentially a branch of east Indians from India.

For the record; despite some racist connotations to the word 'Gypsy', more and more Roma are embracing said 'slur' in the titles of their organizations---------much like the 'Fighting Irish' logo for the Notre Dame football team,

Ok, so let us for a minute take your position. When the Spanish conquered Mexico, they freely interbred with the Indians, thus creating the Mestizo.

When the English conquered the Eastern Seaboard, they did not freely interbreed with the Indians.

Why not? Now, instead of beating your chest and shouting hogwash. Give your reasoning on the difference.

The Spanish didn't come to colonize the way the first English settlers did.

They came to plunder and proseletyze. They didn't bring their women, children, and grandparents the way the pilgrims did. Same thing with the Portuguese. They intermarried and inter-bred because they wanted women and didn't HAVE women of their own already.

Unless you're laughably trying to assert that the ENGLISH are "more racist" than their neighbors to the South (despite the fact that the royalty freely inter-married, etc.).... and despite the fact that "mestizos" are several rungs down the social ladder in Latin America than "pure blooded" Spaniards!

I don't really think it was "freely", more like cleansing through breeding, much like the English did with the Scottish (fornication under command of the king, aka the "f" word).

Freely interbred, huh? I can't help but wonder just how 'freely' the Indian women entered into these unions.

TriMT7 has what seems a logical reason, although not accurate. The Virginia colonies were all male and began the trend of killing the locals (Pocahontas was and exception and is famous for being an exception)
The Spanish in South America freely married indian women, although there were plenty of Spanish women. They did not carry the essentially racist ideas of the English.

So why were the English so different? Even the French commonly took native wives, but the English did not. First thing to understand was the religious ideals of the English, potent puritans. The second was the long history of the English in Ireland. The English transfered their feelings about the Irish to the Native Americans, summed up easiest as, the Irish being inferior beings.

If you study British Imperial History you will find that British held aloof from the natives they ruled, the classic examples are found in India, where "going native" resulted in social disgrace.

To call me prejudiced for point out history is just to show how little history some people know.

I'm sure the indigenous population of Central American will offer a differing opinion. Here's a nice little piece in the New York Times...

Moderator cut: orphaned due to possible copyright violationAnd the Mexican people have the nerve to call us Gringos racist.

Never mind the fact that even a Mayan Mexican here illegally is treated better by us 'White' people than by their own countrymen SOB-----all Mexicans are equally Hispanic to us.
